Steam version switcher?

Today my friend bought/installed cod4 on steam so he could play with me on the abnerdog server, only to find that it installed the game with the latest update, 1.7. We looked for a version switcher that works for me and he tried it, only to find that 1, it wouldn't run, and 2, afterwards cod4 refused to play without completely reinstalling. Does anybody know a way that he could play on 1.6?

there is a program you can download that will allow you too switch from 1.6 to 1.7 I just use this

but there is a small problem after switching back there is 2 files you'll need to have to put back into the program folder to play back on 1.7. you can find these files online with a simple google search

i tried this and it did not work for me. i don't know what to do at this point.

It didn't work? Did you put the version switcher in your cod steam folder?

 

I have steam, did this and it works like a charm.

Ask Alex, she is the person who gave me mine. You have to make sure to install the patches BEFORE installing the switcher though.

i am running cod4 with steam too. the steam version is (ordinary) up to date so you dont need to patch it. download the Version Changer from Donwloadsection and follow all steps of installation progress.

ordinary the install shield will select the correct installation path automatically so dont change it. (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4\Version_Changer). after installation is completed just run the version changer.

finally got it to work. it had to update.
