I looked it up on wikipedia and it says there that they only sank 3 merchant ships during war time but according to the papers they did a lot more than that. there is one attack where one torpedo split the ship in two and as they came up to periscope depth and saw many dead in the water and some that were trying to make it into lifeboats they continued to attack until no one was left Quote
