Make Me a Config

Hello there, I am an Avid FPS player, and I mainly play Wolfenstein: ET on the PC, as my PC can't handle much else - but it can't handle ET that well either. I would say I am quite a good player but seriously low fps rates (10-25) constantly, mixed with spikes that make it drop down to 1-10 are seriously ruining my gameplay. A FA member suggested I ask for help here - I am not new to using cfgs, binds etc but know very little about game optimisation.

 

I need a config that can optimise the game settings for my PC and hopefully increase my FPS and smooth everything out. I play across all mods, including both casual play on 2.55 and scrims on etpro 2.6b. I don't really want anything changing my keybinds so you know.

From you screen shot this is your hardware, But can you please tell me the rest (in red) then i can make you a config only for you

 

 

CPU CORE2 E6320

RAM 4GB (very important)

Graphic Card Nvidia 8500GT(very important)

Monitor = display 19" + Resolution 1440x900 + Refresh Rate you can up to 75Hz (very important)

Internet connexion = xdsl or cable or modem (very important)

 

Game graphics High or ugly (tell me if you care about the beauty of the game, I mean you want to see all graphic details in the game Or you don't care about that cos you looking only for better performance.)

Right well beauty wise - I would like a half-decent resolution so I can actually see what is going on in the distance, but something like 1024x768 is fine for that. Other than that I am so used to playing every single game on minimum settings beauty is quite irrelivant tbh. If I had a PC that could handle it - sure, but I don't so nevermind.

 

The workings of the internet are my absoloute weakest point when it comes to computing - I have an internet connection from Virgin Media which I beleive comes through a cable into the house, but then goes into a wireless router... that then funnels the wireless signal through the power socket using a devolo adaptor thingey, goes into another plugged into power here and that goes into the ethernet port. Basically - cable - router - wireless though the power cables - PC.

 

Also - I think I have 2GB ram not 4 - I did not order this PC and havn't seen the order form. Annoyingly - dxdiag lists 2GB ram, but CPUZ lists it as 4... confusing.

ok dont worry it s gonna take few minutes and then you can have your config to test it ^^

 

for Ram you do have 4GB but as you are using 32bits system it can not handle more then 3GB so it will show only 2GB on screenshot but this may be you are limited you ram to 2GB this can be done by using some tweakers

Ok try this and tell me what you get ...

 

As usual put autoexec.cfg in your etmain folder

 

Few cvars i want you to change their value just to have the best setting:

 

r_ignorehwgamma is set to "0" but good for nvidia card try to put it r_ignorehwgamma "1" (just change the value inside autoexec.cfg and restart the game)

cg_fov here is set to "105" by default it's "90" but you can up to 120 best choice will be 110 but it depends on player him self

Ok tried it quickly and it is a HELL of a lot smoother than before. Not sure if I am just being silly, but has the crosshair moved downwards on the screen a bit? It just seems a bit... wrong.

moved downwards (damn my english is not that good) don't get you mean you want another crosshair???

 

change setting here. try another value try 4 or 3

Yeah i thought it moved down, but the crosshair is fine - was using that one anyway. Why move it down though? it just seems a bit odd thats all.

no cos this one is great to aim but you can change that as i told you ... try 4 and you will see ^^

It is not a 1GB GPU it is 256MB. Truthfully - I do not know why it says it is 1GB - it isn't. I have the packaging for it, and it says on it 256mb. Then again, DXdiag also reads my RAM wrong so probably best to ignore it.

Well done for posting lots of irrelivant information to performance like your keyboard, monitor, earpiece, mouse. I am running on windows vista which eats my RAM and processing power like a hungry fat chick. Also - the CPU is the bottleneck not the GPU.

nothing wrong man ... it's all normal you have nvidia card with turbocache technology like ATI have Hypermemory for their card, turbocache allow your video card to have more available memory by using both onboard video memory and main system memory.

so your 8500GT had 256MB but can up to 1GB using you main ram on system and you can saw that on dxdiag

 

for vista it's not true mine is using 200MB from 4GB i have, it's all up to you if you wanna use all useless stuff by default or disable all stuff you don't and you never gonna use

 

beside wolfenstein ET it's 2003 game which made on 2003 PC machine, we are at the end 2009 and if 2005 or 2008 pc machine can not handle that game ... man something wrong here :shock:
