Google screw Topeka

Topeka fail to seduce Google

Following my recent story about Google setting about providing internet, it's come to my attention that whilst Google were deciding on which city to choose for its high speed internet network, Topeka attempted to lure Google in with a smooth yet seemingly humorous tactic.

By city council vote, the name of Topeka city was in fact changed to "Google"!

Here you see the Topeka's welcome sign properly changed to "Google" - this was an attempt to lure Google into favouring them for their high speed broadband network.

Despite this amazing effort, Google decided to go with Kansas City, a neighbouring town.

The Mayor of Topeka says that he is not upset by this, with a statement made by telephone: "I've often wondered what difference does it make if it takes you 10 seconds or one second to access information.." "My life goes a little slower than that."
