KevinBacon Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npbUFXzGS8c "When Edward Elgar composed 'Variations on an Original Theme', he dedicated the orchestral compositions to his friends. Each composition dedicated to one. While I always had an affection for one distinct track from this set, I found it even more ironic when I learned that he had written each composition for a friend. Whenever I hear 'Nimrod-Var. #9' I think of you : D I think of WWI as well for some reason. I guess it harkens an image in my mind of when gentlemen were gentlemen, and war was still seen as an affair of honour. Huge airships, fancily colored biplanes, and men fighting for their lives, hoping to get back home. Romantic, and yet anachronistic I guess. That kind of sums up my feelings for this song. I'm sure you have heard this song before. Perhaps you will appreciate it a little more after hearing my thoughts on it. I hope you enjoy it : ) Christoffer" Quote
Saizou Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 As I posted before in some thread, very few things can beat the sound of orchestra. Even more so if you used to play in one. Quote
KevinBacon Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 I played violin for a couple years, but could never play very well. Nevertheless, it heightened my appreciation for the art. Quote
