I installed ETLegacy flatpak using the software manager library in Mint.  The game installs and runs fine for a while, and then without warning "VM create on cgame failed"  can't find the cgame.mp.i386.so in the mod folder.

I navigate to that folder and the file is there.

I've removed (removed deleted the file structure) and reinstalled if via software manager and the error returns.

Any help fixing this for good would be appreciated.

Thank you  =OF=Roadkill aka Brian

Hi Roadkill. welcome on our forum.

Flatpak runtimes are 64‑bit, ET: Legacy Flatpak uses 64‑bit VM, This causes issues like: "VM_Create on cgame failed". My suggestion would be to install the 32-bit version.

I’m unsure what you mean about this? This is entirely incorrect.   https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.etlegacy.ETLegacy we released as x86_64 for flathub last was 1 year ago. The issue happens with user permissions a lot of the time from the /app/ folder and is a known flatpak issue. To resolve run as sudo not recommended at all. You would be much better off downloading and installing normally please see https://www.etlegacy.com/download. If you need additional help such as transferring files from the strange place flathub puts them let me know via dm I’ll walk you through it.

You’re right, my earlier wording was sloppy. Flathub is published as x86_64 (and only lists x86_64 as an available architecture), so “Flatpak runtimes are 64‑bit” as a blanket statement was incorrect.

What I meant is:  the VM_Create on cgame failed error often happens when the client architecture (or the loaded game VM module) doesn’t match what the server/mod expects. There are recent reports where the x64 client fails but the 32‑bit client works

when connecting to certain servers/mods

I mean a simple

flatpak info com.etlegacy.ETLegacy - would show the compatibility on that.

but, since you can run and be fine for a few completely rules any of that out regardless.

I would maybe delete all of your downloads and pk3s in case any are corrupted.

I also know nothing about Linux so idk. I just know based off “The game installs and runs fine for a while,” that it shows something else 😛

So the error states can’t find i386 so it’s the 32b version looking for its i386 client so. So architecture isn’t the issue. Here’s what happens. The so client is looking for is in pk3 not outside it. Engine goes to look for it sees the pk3 internally it’s unzipped. Issue arises when permission fails to do this and or timing issues. Sudo solves in the since permission issues won’t exist but it’s not a great solution. You could also add the i386 client binaries outside the pk3 and it will be found that way but again sloppy.

Thank you for replying, I am admittedly the worst of the worst here being an old windows guy trying to learn linux to breath life into my HP nvidia laptop.  I've gone to that web site and did the download and I have no idea what to do with this once it opens in the text editor (remembering what it was like learning DOS in 1986 again).  What happens next?
