Why are some admins ultra sensitive about spinning knives? What rule does that even break?

Just wondering.

I cannot find any rules in our rules about "spinning knives" could you clarify what this is? I apologise for my lack of knowledge on this

Sometimes you can get a knife "stuck" in the air and it just sits there and spins. I got splatted twice for doing it but then also slapped with a warning 10 minutes later (even though I hadn't even done it again). I asked what rule was being referenced for this action and got, of course, no response from the apparently deeply offended admins.

So reading rules as follows

14.

Using exploits of any kind (bugs, map glitches etc.) to gain an advantage is not allowed. Admins will warn you 3 times and after that may decide to put you in spec or kick you out of the server so that fair play can be maintained. Repeated breaking of this rule after a couple of kicks will result in a short to long term ban depending on what our admins see fit.

From our official server rules, I can understand how this could, in certain situations, be used to gain an advantage. Enemy Territory has an “entity limit,” and in Jaymod, thrown knives are handled unusually in that they persist as server-side entities (unlike bullets). As a result, repeatedly throwing knives and causing them to remain “stuck” can prolong those entities. This could potentially be used to consume entity slots and interfere with other projectile entities (for example, panzer shots), which in the worst case could result in a panzer effectively firing nothing.

That said, I don’t have the full details on why you were “splatted” twice and then warned over what appears to be a single incident. I’d recommend tagging the admin who issued the warning for clarification. Based on what’s visible, it appears Rule 14 may have been violated, as the behavior seems intentional rather than accidental.

I hope this provides clarification on the rules and why they were enforced and how.

Ah, very interesting. Thanks for the info.

(I'm not going to bother tagging the admin as I'm not really looking to make this into a bigger deal than it is.)

The problem is the irritating noise that it creates, which, on some maps, can be heard all over the map.

We have had whole groups of players "spin knives" at the same location, creating a cacophony of irritating noises.

I know that some players delight in searching for places where they can get their knives to spin, but the admins have to suppress those attempts so that the sounds do not get out of hand and cause players to leave or to turn their sound off.

It is another form of "audio spam".  The servers might have limits on repeated vsay usage, but they do nothing about the knife sounds.

I see. I didn't know the noise didn't stay localized to where the knife is and thought the admin was just being a bit of a ****. My mistake. Thanks for the additional clarification.

Also as per rule 23 states

"Team Play is required. Don't be useless when your team is losing or not able to advance in the map."

So not only is it wrong for all that's been already said here, but it's breaking this rule, which enforce players to be useful for the team.
