I found out that you can add the unallowed symbols into clan tags by editing your config. We can now set our clan tags to =FA=, and would be able to have =F|A= if the limit for clan tags wasn't 4 characters. :/

Anyways, you can find your config here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty black ops\players\config_mp.cfg

And the setting for you clan tag should be this:

seta clanName "=FA="

Open it with WORD or word pad and it will be easier to see.

I think the ='s make more sense than the | in the clan tag because the ='s are a lot more noticeable than the |.

Yeah but "=FA=" is like a man with no penis, and has never been used as a tag,

"F|A" has been used since day one in all the server names.

Word pad is what I used and was easy as pie .

I am with ThunderC on this one...F|A

We can all agree it sucks they don't have 5 char tags.

Maybe we should create poll to determine if it is =FA= or F|A for official use. It would be nice to have a consistent tag.

gonna have to agree here, we need it one or the other, i was just in a game with funkbut i have ='s her had | ... looked like two different clans. I initially went with the ='s but after seeing it in game as [=FA=] it just doesnt look like [F|A] looked a lot less cluttered.
