I've never been able to use one of those configs.  Though the players stand out more, they only do depending on the map lighting.  My eyes seem to pick up color better than brightness anyway.  Wish it were the other way around because the crosshair is so easy to see with low mapoverbrightbits.

If you buy a monitor with black light reduction, such as benq offers,  You can turn up the brightness in only the dark areas and still get the benefits of players standing out.
