That reminds me of a scene from a movie that I partially watched recently, set in the 80s or 90s.  I saw someone 'dialing' a phone with this dialing-in-a-circle system, but something was Very Strange about it!  The I realized that it was not actually a "dial-phone", but a "push-button phone", but that the push-buttons were arranged like a dial-phone!  They had just poked the buttons within the dial-ring, instead of doing the finger-twirl to actually "dial" it. 😄  That kind of makes sense, as people would have been used to finding the numbers in that standard ring and not in any keypad style. 😄
