A long time ago on the forum I found a tutorial explaining how midificare the destination of the game exe file and enter the ip of the server:

what do you need to do exactly? creating a shortcut to run et and connect to a server?

 

you can try adding a +connect server ip (example et.exe +connect 8.9.4.227:27960)
