Medic Kane Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) I have been playing around with the m14 have I have found I like it a lot at medium to long range with the red dot (it is horrible without it), but I have a lot of trouble up close. I might tell myself that with the slower rate of fire I am just loosing shot outs, but I previously had better luck with the G3. My current built is Stopping Power. the fire rate of an m14 is very good, and I don't think double tap would give me a higher kill total. Perk three is where I am having trouble. Would I be better of using Steady Aim? Right now I have deep impact, but I am finding myself switch to the mp90 on the objective maps, because I feel like I am not contributing enough to my team with the m14. Currently my p90 build is double tap & deep impact. Thoughts? Edit note: I am playing on the hard-core server. Edited October 1, 2010 by Medic Kane Quote
Tomato Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 (edited) I'm assuming you're playing non-HC for this post. Keep the Stopping Power with the M14 so you can keep the 2-hit kills at any range. I'd say put Steady Aim instead. I strictly use Steady Aim over Deep Impact because you can benefit so much more by increased hipfire accuracy than more penetration damage. As long as you're a fast clicker and have good accuracy you can actually use the M14 really well in close ranges just firing from the hip. I can't really say much for the P90 since I never really use it. Still though, I always just do Stopping Power/Steady Aim, and I'm sure it would work as well with the P90. Although I would recommend you try a better gun like the AK-74u or MP5. Edited October 1, 2010 by Tomato Quote
AntiThought Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I see you on HC server with it. On Hardcore server I would say keep Deep Impact. When I use it and feel I might get into a CQC situation I switch to my M9 pistol. Remember the M14 is not designed to be a CQC weapon it is best as a mid range rifle somewhere between the other Assault Rifles and the Sniper Rifles. If I used it on Non-HC I would use Steady Aim. Because there are more people in that server the odds of ending up in a CQC situation are much higher. Quote
EternalZombie Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 That is because Tom doesn't like to AIM. Personally I pick deep impact over steady aim any day, even on my 74u But its all your opinion, if you are not in favor of aiming down the sights a lot go with steady aim. If you would rather like to kill larger groups of enemies more quickly go with deep impact also if you want to shoot people through walls. Quote

I can aim down the sights and from the hip with great accuracy with Steady Aim. Deep Impact only helps on the occasions where you need to fire through a wall. I'm betting you've killed more people by firing from the hip than firing through a wall. Edit: I see you're playing on hardcore, drop the Stopping Power, it won't make a difference. Take juggernaut instead to help you actually stand a chance in close encounters. Edited October 1, 2010 by Tomato Quote

I have to disagree with you some. I kill people through walls and objects far more than I do with my weapon at the hip. When in Hardcore Juggernaut is wasted. The only difference I really notice between a jugger and non jugger is the little white and red + when I hit them. Stopping power is still very useful when firing through walls/objects and over long distances (remember bullets lose damage as distance increases and when penetrating objects). I'm betting you've killed more people by firing from the hip than firing through a wall. Just proves Zombie's point that you don't like to aim Quote
Disco Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I'm predominately a hip shooter so I use steady aim. Rarely do i ever get any kills through walls. Lucky when I do, though. Quote
omgimdead Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 I like deep impact. There are lots of times where I can pick a few people off through walls. I try not to be a wall spammer, but if I see someone, get a few bullets in, and they run into a building, I can fire a few more through the wall, it helps. Quote
Medic Kane Posted October 2, 2010 Author Posted October 2, 2010 I see you guys have kidda the same thoughts I do. I fire from the hip alot, but as to juggernot, I;ve found in hard core it depends on who hits who first. I used it a lot when I first started, and I think many people just forgot about it. Until the last couple of days, I rarely sw it on the hard core server: seeing it more I am thinking hard about giving it another shot..... But I do shoot through the wall often, not a wall spamer, but some of the maps, shooting through walls really makes sense. Quote
Brakkus Posted October 19, 2010 Posted October 19, 2010 For me, it depends on my set-up. If I am using my silenced G3, I stick with Deep Impact. I am usually silent sniping, and don't typically have enemies in front of me unless I am running around, in which case I use the handgun. Deep Impact gets me many kills for that set-up. If I don't use it, I get frustrated because I could be killing someone behind a wall. For my SMG's and Assault weapons I use Steady Aim. Hell, I even use Steady Aim on my M249, it gets surprisingly accurate with Steady Aim. For the M14, I would drop Stopping Power, on HC servers anyways. It seems like overkill to me. For some reason, I like the M14 better than the G3 with the red-dot, and the silenced G3 over the silenced M14. Quote
Medic Kane Posted October 27, 2010 Author Posted October 27, 2010 So I have been playing a lot with overkill a lot lately, which is causing me to drop double tap. P90 and LMG, First RPD w/ a grip, but the SAW is what I have now. I am getting upset with the saw due to the lack of ability to shoot through a wall, I am not killing people that should die. Thinking of going to a SAW with a grip, and double tap or overkill & deep impact....The SAW seems to be about as movement friendly as a rifle... Quote

Maybe its ok at start of game but once the game has started..... just pick up a second weapon. Better to have PERKS that affect all your weapons. Double tap... not so much with snipers or g3. so pick something that helps you with every weapon. Nothing better than taking someones shiny new gun then killing them with it :-) Quote

I've been using DT w/ steady aim on my p90, and it is very nice to pick up an m4 and mow people down.....I have been noticing the m4 seems to have more "go through the wall power" Quote
