Hello!

I m searching badly for a cvar to fix my problem on some bigger maps like radar. It seems that the map does not get rendered on far distances as you can see on the screenshots.

any help would be nice!

The distance is ok in the screenshots.

The cvar your looking for is r_wolffog. It seems to be off in the screenshots. Probably because the server forces it. Normally in the radar map you would see thick fog at the far end and because it is missing, it looks like your rendering shorter distance because you can see the edge. Actually because there isn't fog, you can see a little further.

Hope it helps and that I got it right too :)

I don't believe there is any way to render farther distances. ge_f was correct in his analysis, usually there is fog in the distance to disguise the render cut-off point, but FA servers force the fog off.

Radar is designed to be played with fog, like railgun, etc. If you play in a server without fog you see it like that so it's normal.

Btw, the cvar you are looking for is r_zfar, but unuckily for you it is forced to 0 by pb and most etpro configs. :(

A 'bug' I have noticed with the default value is that (especially with 120 fov, which I use) if I look to the right or left I can see farther in the side part of the screen (so I can check for enemies etc.)

But you can't change that cvar because it's forced to 0.

Try to make a local lan server without pb (and no official etpro config if you use etpro), and try r_zfar 10000 or maybe even 100000 and see the difference.

thanx for the answer. there s fog on radar? Maybe true that, its just weird cause sometime players shoot on me and i cant see them. If they come closer i do lol.

Maybe its my fov of 120 too....

i need to ask grumpy again. He said he could fix it, but cant remember the command.

Thx anyways! :thanks

Maybe that cvar is not locked in some servers I don't know because I have it set to 0 in my cfg. Never tried to change it before. Or maybe they are just cheaters or they are hidden in a good spot.

If you play in a server where r_zfar is not forced to 0 you can try to change it (to a high value, otherwise your viewing distance will be even lower than normal).

i have tried r_zfar on localhost w/o pb. It didnt change anything. I cant remember that i had any troubles with that before, but its some years ago and i had to play with low settings at that time.

And no, lol, the players not hiding. E.g i go as allies the from the CP, and i cant see the west radar from there, but ppl shooting me from this site. And it very confusing if you move left and right, when the background changes all the time.

but maybe you re right with smoke or rain because i tested it even with cvar reset and it was the same...

its only radar, so np!

btw what happened to the PMs on FA Hardcore?

sorry, you are right...

I told you try on local lan server, but actually I had tested it by running et and doing /devmap radar, which is the way I usually load a map quickly from the console to make some trickjump practice, only I forgot that if you load a map with devmap you are also unlocking all cheat protected cvars, so regardless of pb you can never change that cvar on a real server, because it is forced to 0 by the game itself.

In a real lan (dedicated) server you can't change it, unless you have one of those trickjump server configs which allow commands like god, noclip, etc.

So, in a regular server, nobody can change it, and if they do it means they are cheating. I don't know how they can shoot at you from so far, I would be curious to see a demo, since the fog distance is fixed for everyone, the only way you can look farther is the way I told in the other post, that is, using the sides of your screen, but then even if you know there is an enemy there, it would be impossible in most cases to aim at them because once you aim there they are not visible anymore... I use that technique for riflenades only.

i think i dont see them because i play with fov 120. i gonna record the next radar, its quite funny (errm its not) to see the enemies disappearing :yahoo

This is because the game renders a 'cube' of vision. It can best be explained with an image:

camera3d.gif

Don't mind all the letters and such, but look at the figure. The dot on the bottom left corner is where you 'eye' would be and the thick black line is your direction of vision. As you can see you can see further to the utmost left and right of your viewing 'cube'. Hope I explained it properly ^^

PS: The reason why this cube gets bigger along the line of vision is because objects further away from you have to be scaled down.
