  1. Basic Guide I made this guide since our Clash of clans-clan =F|A= is continuously growing to become bigger and better. People around the globe have made a lot of guides about clash of clans. This is a small basic guide for the people who recently started playing and joined =F|A= in Clash of Clans. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the forums or in-game, or you can try to google if somebody already answered your question on Supercell's Clash of Clans forum. What is Clash of Clans? Clash of Clans is a free iOS/Android game created by Supercell. It is released on iOS on 2 August 2012, and 8 October 2013 on Android. It is a strategy game where you can build your own village, and attack other player's villages, where you can steal their resources (and vice versa they can steal yours). Resources are needed to expand your village or to unlock new troops, to upgrade your troops or to upgrade your defensive structures, like walls, mortars and cannons. A key point of this game is to form a clan or to join one. In a clan, players can donate troops to each other, have nice chats in the clanchat or you can challenge other clans for a clanwar. When you download your clash of clans, you can link it to your facebook account or your google+ account. When something happens to your game (lost your phone, deleted the game, etc.) you can recover it this way. Experience, Townhall level and Trophies - Experience is gained when you complete buildings, destroy enemies' townhalls, donating troops to clanmembers and by removing natural decorations (which also give gems). Experience and experience level has no real meaning, other than indicating how long a player has played. - Townhall level is the "only" level which matters. You can unlock new buildings, unlock new troops, and improve your buildings, walls and troops. A rule of thumb is to max every building, wall and troop to the max level, before going to the next townhall level. This is very important, but i will discus it later. - Your trophy count is your matchmaker in Clash of Clans. When you press the attack button, you will be matched with enemies around the same trophy count as you (e.g. when you have 1200 trophies, you can be matched with players who have 1000 trophies or players who have 1400 trophies. Low levels are in the lower trophy range and higher levels stick around in the higher trophy range. This doesn't mean that someone with Townhall level 10 (max TH) can't play in the low trophy ranges. Though, the loot will be much less if you "bash noobs", because Clash of Clans uses a loot-cap based on Townhall level difference. This is why someone shouldn't "rush" his Townhall, but should max every building first. Resources There are four different resources in Clash of Clans: Gold, Elixir, Dark Elixir and Gems. - Gold is used for walls, defensive buildings, townhalls and decorations. - Elixir is used for upgrading army buildings, producing troops and for upgrading troops. - Dark elixir is unlocked at Townhall level 7 when you have constructed a dark elixir storage. - Gems are the in-game currency which you can buy with real money, earn by completing achievements or cleaning up natural decorations (gem boxes, trees, mushrooms, etc.). They can be used for speeding the upgrade processes, buying gold, elixir and dark elixir and for buying builder huts. A builders' hut, brings one builder with it, which is needed to upgrade your buildings. you can have a maximum of 5 builders in your village. For beginners it is important that you save up your gems, so you can buy these builders' huts as they are not cheap. The objective of the game The objective of the game is to improve your base, join a clan and to win the clanwars and to become the number one in the game by having the most trophies. Besides that, a lot of fun comes along when unlocking new stuff or making new friends, especially in our =F|A= clan. Building your base (defense) At low levels, don't worry about defending your townhall. Your resources are the most important to progress fast to the higher levels of this game. You won't be competing to become the number 1 till you have townhall level 10. A very important item in the defensive aspect of this game are the walls. You need to use them wisely, since they slow down enemies' troops. So what do you put inside your wall compartments: - Mortars and wizard towers. They attack multiple enemies' troops at once, instead of the cannon and archer tower, which can only target one troop at a time. You should put these in the center of your base and near your storages. - Air defenses. If it is unprotected, or even outside your walls, it can be destroyed which will allow the enemy to use their flying troops, like dragons, minions, balloons or healers. - Storages. Because storages hold your resources! - Clan castle. Yes! your Clan castle!! What many low levels don't know is that a clancastle has the same use as any other defensive structure. The only difference is that your clancastle holds troops, which are donated by your clanmembers. Let's say you have a clancastle level 1, which has a troop capacity of 10 units. I, as high level-player can donate five level 5 minions (minions use 2 capacity per unit, so 10/2 = 5). five level 5 minions have a total DPS of 250!! The only defensive structures who can outdo this is the Infernotower set on single-mode and the level 8 Air Defense. What to put outside your walls: - Army camps, army bases, spell factory and laboratory. They do not add on your defensive capabilities, they do not store anything your enemy can steal from you and they are a good distraction for enemies' troops, while your defensive structures can still target and kill them. - Mines and collectors. I hope you play enough to empty your collectors and mines, so it goes in your storage, which is obviously much safer. - Builder's huts. - Decorations. Some tips: - Don't use double walls (two walls directly next behind each other). Wallbeakers deal splashdamage which breaks your second layer of walls too. - Don't put your storages together. When someone breaks through and gets to your storage, he will find it more difficult to reach the other one too. - Put mortars in the center of your base, but not near each other. their low hp makes them susceptible to lightning spells. - At higher levels, put your Air defense in the center of your base too. In the lower levels, aerial attacks are not frequent, so it isn't necessary. However, keep upgrading your Air defenses. they are one of the most important defensive buildings in mid- and highlevels. - Empty mines and collectors regularly, you will be a less target for enemy attacks. - Keep the clacastle in the center of your base, so your troops can't be lured out easily. - Upgrade your walls! This might be a pain in the ass, but it will become a more pain in the ass when you reach higher levels with only nooby walls. walls level 7 or 8 are a nice target to aim for when reaching TH9 or TH10. High level walls also have a daunting effect. it scares enemies away! this has been proved numerous times. Attacking enemies (offense) To attack you need to build an army, which costs elixir. Try to raid bases which will net you more elixir than you have spent on your army. Your army composition consists of different troops, which will make a good combo to successfully raid your enemies' base. e.g. a combination of wizards and giants. Giants will soak up the damage with their high health, and wizards will deal the most damage with their high DPS attacks. There are many strategies and many combo's made so i will post the most important here. Note that there is no best strategy in the game. The game is diverse since people make different bases. Some bases are good at defending one strategy, but are weak to the other and vice versa -> The same goes for attacking. One strategy is for some bases better than others. Same same goes for troop quantity composition (some people prefer to use 10 giants instead of 12 or whatever). You need find the strategy which works the best for yourself. I will post some low-level strategies here: - Barch Barbarians, archers. Good cheap combo to steal resources and to get at least one star on a base. Stealing a lot of resources without using much elixir to train = double-win. Deploy a line of barbarians, with a line of archers behind it. the barbarians will be used as meatshield while the archers do the damage or shoot over the walls. - BAG: Barbarians, archers and goblins. Good cheap combo to steal resources and to get at least one star on a base. Stealing a lot of resources without using much elixir to train = double-win. Deploy the same as Barch, but use the goblins to quickly destroy the collectors, mines and storages. - Giant-healer combo: Deploy Giants in the first spot nearest the Air Defenses. Use Wall Breakers to break the wall that and do not deploy the Healer until the Air Defense is destroyed. Once the Healer is deployed, the Giants will destroy the remaining defenses. You can send Goblins/Barbarians/Archers at this time to finish the rest. - Giants and wizards/archers: Same as the Giant-healer combo. Only without healers, since some low level players don't have the healer unlocked yet. The Loot system and the loot limit While raiding, you will find bases with a lot of different amounts of loot. This is because of the loot system Clash of Clans uses. There is also a loot-cap. So players with a high townhall level can't completely crush players with a low townhall and steal all their resources. Everything is explained in this post, but i will quote it here: Useful sites - Official Clash of Clans forum - Clash of Clans Wiki - Clash of Clans base layouts
