sincity Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Tor Browser Whenever you go online, you’re being tracked. Advertisers track you so they can annoy you more efficiently. Websites track you to see where you’re from, and sometimes to limit what they’ll let you see. And in some countries, the government or its agents track you to see if you’re accessing or publishing material they don’t approve of. Tor Browser can help in all of those cases. Why you need it Tor Browser is a customised version of Firefox. It keeps your online browsing private – or at least, enables you to browse privately; it won’t stop you posting personal or identifiable information if that’s what you want to do. Tor stands for The Onion Router, and it’s a way of bouncing your data requests around the internet to disguise their identity. You might be in Penge or Pennsylvania, but with Tor the website or web service may think you’re in Pisa. That means it can bypass geoblocking, which is when a website isn’t available to users in certain countries due to censorship or copyright issues. The most obvious application of Tor is to protect the privacy of political activists in repressive countries, but it’s also a great privacy protector for those of us whose browsing isn’t a matter of life and death.
