Night Hunter Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 The next video game in the Metro franchise releases next year, according to a website for Metro 2035, the final novel in Dmitry Glukhovsky's book series. The website features a timeline of when Metro's books and video games released, including the events of each one. "The next Metro video game" is pegged for 2017, and its description reads, "It all adds up to something. Where the books end their story, the game will pick it up. An era of great discoveries lies ahead." This makes it sound like the game would take place after the events of Metro 2035, which is set to release in English this holiday. The last game in the series, Metro: Last Light, released in 2013 Critic Kevin VanOrd concluded, "Last Light is notably superior to its predecessor, merging storytelling, shooting, and sneaking into a remarkable and cohesive whole. And through this harmony of game design comes the caustic dissonance of a world so torn asunder that a single possibility can bring with it endless hope." After Last Light, Deep Silver released a collection of the series' two games remastered for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC called Metro Redux. Developer 4A Games confirmed this past summer that it's working on two projects. One of those is an Oculus Touch game called Arktika 1, which bares a resemblance to the Metro series. It's a shooter set in a post-apocalyptic future during a new ice age, where players will have to use guns to take on raiders, marauders, and monsters. Night Hunter Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 UPDATE: November 9th of 2016 [uPDATE] Publisher Deep Silver has released a statement on yesterday's news of the possibility of a new Metro game releasing in 2017. The Facebook post reads as follows: "As the exclusive rights holder to video games set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans' expectations--releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them. When we have more news to share, we will." The timeline on the Metro 2035 website has also been updated to "An untitled Metro project" with no date. The description now reads, "But the Metro saga doesn't end where the books leave us… An era of great discoveries lies ahead!" Quote
