Not your ordinary language of course, and not the easiest one either for sure, but it might be of interest for some to learn a few basics.

 

Also, it might surprise a lot of people how many Greek words are present in the English language - more than 150,000 according to some studies. So actually, a lot of you already know a lot of Greek words without even having realised it!

The main problem for studying Greek (ancient and modern) is the alphabet. Though the Latin alphabet which is used by most countries is derived from the Greek one, they are different. Modern Greek is the direct descendant of Ancient Greek language. Most words are the same, or have the same as the ancient one root, evolving over time. It is fairly easy to jump from one to the other.
