Night Hunter Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Meet the New York visionary who wants to create his own country out of a remote piece of land in the United States. Barack Obama is unlikely to go for the idea but that hasn’t stopped artist Zaq Landsberg attempting to make his dream of creating his own country a reality. The Republic of Zaqistan was created when Landsberg purchased the two acres of desert, located 60 miles from the nearest town, on eBay for $610 (£397) back in 2005. “The conceptual goal is I want it to become a real country,” he told KSL.com. He adds: “Out here, it's not that crazy of an idea to have your own little spot, and to do your own thing.” Landsberg, who calls himself the president of Zaqistan, admits he initially found owning the land “a hassle” but says he has now “grown to like it”. A robot in the republic • Inside the weird world of the micronation He has even created a flag, a victory arch and a robot sentry to watch over the land’s borders for intruders. The unofficial motto for Zaqistan is: “Something from nothing.” You will also need an official-looking passport to enter Zaqistan, which will be stamped upon arrival and when you leave. You can purchase one online for $40 (£26). • 10 bizarre micronations Landsberg admits his dream of Zaqistan becoming a country is ‘impossible’ but says he is still going to try and make it happen. “Legitimacy is one of those things that's fairly subjective to begin with,” explained Mike Abu, a friend of Zaqistan. “But when we're talking about it, does it exist? There's no question about it.” Water remains Zaqistan’s main import, according to its website, while its main export is listed as conceptual art. Source http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ Quote
