All 8 of Halo 5: Guardians' campaign characters will play differently

Since E3, we've known that Halo 5: Guardians' campaign would be a changeable thing, swapping focus from the Master Chief-led Blue Team to Spartan Locke's Fireteam Osiris. Thanks to a huge new post on the Halo Waypoint blog, we now know that individual characters in those teams are as important to the player as which team they're playing on.

 

While discussing the game's co-op campaign, 343 revealed that all 8 characters come with their own specialities - extending as far as their own personal strengths:

 

"While the core gameplay and controls remain the same, each character has a unique set of starting Loadout weapons. Linda has her signature Sniper Rifle, while the Chief maintains his classic AR. Naturally, all of the characters can acquire and use other weapons and vehicles along the way. There are also subtle differences between the characters in terms of attributes. For example: Kelly is the fastest member of Blue Team, while Tanaka has increased motion tracker range."

 

Don't expect Diablo-like classes here, but the idea of giving each character a distinct advantage should lend co-op a slightly more role-playing feel, as opposed to the identikit action heroes of old. That's a feeling that even extends to the game story:

 

"Depending on which team member you are controlling at any given time," reads the post, "your perspective on the story may shift as you experience slight contextual differences in dialogue. It’s a subtle thing and the core of the story always remains the same, but it’s something we hope will be appreciated by fans and add to the replay value of the co-op campaign."

 

To really hammer home that difference, 343's even drawn totally different HUDs for each player character. The GIF below, shows the differences between Locke and Blue Team member, Linda, for instance:
