A gallery of brand new images for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice have arrived online. The stills appear courtesy of Entertainment Weeklyalong with details on what we can expect from Zack Snyder's superhero standoff. And while we already know that parts of the characters are shaped by Frank Miller's comic The Dark Knight Returns, the man beneath the cowl has spilled a few more secrets. They're as bleak as you might expect.

“Batman is basically the American version of Hamlet," said Ben Affleck. "We accept that he’s played by actors with different interpretations.” The report goes on to set the stage for Batman's crime-fighting return, which takes place after dedicating decades to keeping Gotham rogue-free. “He’s at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life," Affleck adds. "There’s this sort of world-weariness to it.”

Even his abode takes a backseat. Wayne Manor is described as "a desolate husk, overtaken by weeds and water-stains after years of neglect."  Alas, the whereabouts of Bruce's loyal butler and trusted companion aren't answered in this bunch of images, that focus on the main cast.

Affleck appears in several as Batman and his real-life billionaire persona; Henry Cavill's Superman makes a couple of appearances;  and Gal Gadot shows us her glamorous look when she's not kitted out as Wonder Woman. One of the most intriguing is of Jesse Eisenberg, whose villainous Lex Luthor has a lush head of hair.  It's got to be the Man of Steel and Caped Crusader about to pummel each other.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice opens on March 25, 2016.
