GraveDigger
I just bought a Toshiba Satellite from a friend and it has vista on it. I hate vista and want to replace it with XP. It wont let though. Cant install XP while running vista. Windows wont allow it. Those bastards! Does anybody have any way around this? Other than reformatting and then installing XP? gigabyte
Pretty sure reformatting is your only option if vista doesn't let you install XP. Or maybe just install windows 7, its much better than vista. Edited April 9, 2010 by gigabyte
PHANTASM
lol I have done this before. You have to hold down F2, or whatever gets you into BIOS, while you are rebooting the computer with the XP CD in. Then in BIOS go to "reboot from CD" and it will restart in the XP install mode. Funny how many people get rid of Vista and put XP on their new computer.

-=Medic=-
vista is good if you know how to tweak it... I just finished last night installing vista on old hardwares I had since 2006: PT4 dual core 3GHz + ati 1300 + 320 HD + 4 GB ram, all on tiny little case, now that i bought win7, I decided to offer my old vista retail (legit) to my mother with that old new desktop ^^ well after installing all drivers + updates (sp1 - sp2) + softwares ... I spend 1 hour tweaking all stuff, bios + disabling useless services + modified regedit and eliminated all stuff that start up with windows + used avira as antivirus cuz it's damn fast and light and free Result: 30 seconds boot 230MB ram used from 4GB by default it's 450MB ( I even disabled virtual memory) avira run deep scan use 21% of CPU xp or vista or win 7... the moment you don't even know how to install a regulars driver... the best OS will be the worst between your hands

I bought this laptop from a friend. It has some issues that need to be resolved. I believe it was dropped possibly. The hard drive has some badly damaged sectors. Thanks for all the help. Nugget
Xp is still on top as far as performance. Vista was a joke, it is the new age ME. 7 is an improvement on vista (is actually modeled after server 2008 R2). It did correct a lot of issues in vista but will still not give you the performance that XP would, it still requires much more resources than XP to run. And if setting your boot order was what you were looking for then I fear this venture will be a messy one for you Let us know if you need help! //Nugget
