Stupidest thing I did, as a sport, when I was 18.

I was a drag boat skier.   Yep. That is (or was) a short lived sport back in the late 60's and early '70's.

 

Here is how it worked.  You had a drag boat that could about 100mph in a 1/4 mile.

There was a circular area set up at a lake, that had a 1/4 mile straight away.

We would start out on the outer edge at 25mph and get everything straightened out, and when the boat

got to the start line, the driver punched it.  I was skiing on a large pair of special hi-speed skis about 30 feet

behind the boat.

The boat and skier had to cross the finish line together in order for the run to count.

 

I was lucky and never crashed, but then again we never won a race.  But, just for kicks, one day, I got behind

a demo boat that was doing runs in the mid 120's to 130's mph.  That was insane.  I only did it once.  Good thing

my swim suit was already wet.

 

I know.  Same thing everyone else told me.
