Seggy Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) I know I already said, but that's awesome about the PhD! If you don't mind me asking, how many years of undergrad and graduate school did you go through for it? And welcome to the forums! All told, it was about 11 years of schooling. Grad school, at least after the first couple of years is much different than undergrad though. You're basically working for your advisor, publishing research, learning how to scope problems, become an expert in your field, and find an original topic. And probably teaching classes as well. If I could go back in time, the advice I'd give myself would be to narrow the scope of my thesis topic more quickly. That's actually one of the hardest parts of a PhD: figuring out an interesting problem that will result in enough of a contribution to merit the degree. In actual years, it took about 14 years due to the Army butting in to send me places. Edited May 8, 2014 by Seggy 1 Quote
