Back in November, I bought balcony tickets for Stone Sour at House of Blues. The singer and guitarist for Stone Sour are also in Slipknot ftw. Our adventure started in that I managed to keep it a secret from my 10 year old son until 5 minutes before we left for the show.

The opening acts were.....

Drayter- Never heard of them, but they were awesome. Female lead singer and she rocked it. Check them out on YouTube sometime.

Stolen Babies- hmmmmmm....... Drummer was very technical in his rhythms and guitarist played bass like a regular guitar and it was impressive. But their content was very...... unusual. To give you an idea..... a quote from my son...... "What makes it even more weird is she plays an accordion.".

Pop Evil- I have heard their songs and like them, but even more after this show. Their drummer was an animal. Playing standing up, throwing sticks around his body and off stage while someone threw a new one in, all while never missing a beat. Watching him was worth the cost of admission in itself.

Stone Sour- Great show. Even though James Root (guitarist) was not there as he is working on Slipknot's new album.

The venue at HoB is better than any big concert I have ever been to. Not a bad seat in the house.

Before the concert, we had heard about a "silent auction" of band stuff in support of a charity I am very supportive of that is affiliated with a local radio station. Could not figure out where it was. Asked a security guard. Said he had no idea, but got on his radio and directed us to an elevator to get to where it was in the Foundation Room. Security denied us entry into the Foundation Room because it was where the VIP after party was, but had one of his guys escort us back through a maze to get to the adjoining room where the auction was. Guy behind us also got denied entry, but was directed to follow us to the auction. While looking over the items, talked with him and learned he was Clo ...... a DJ on the Russ Martin Show that funds the charity. Mentioned that it was funny that he was denied entry like us. About then, I noticed a long hallway that connected to the Foundation Room. I asked Clo if he had ever crashed a VIP party. He said "A few". I said "Well..... have you ever crashed one with a 10 year old?". He said "no". I said "Let's go!".

We walked down that hall. I explained to my son, that to pull this off, he needed to stay cool and they key was to ACT like you are supposed to be there. We walked right by security and were in. Several people came up and gave my son ^5's for his Slipknot shirt. So much for keeping a low profile. Real treat came when a rough looking guy came up to comment on his shirt and shake his hand. It was the lead singer for Drowning Pool!!!!!!!

We mingled, listened to the live band rocking the place, had free drinks (sodas, of course, but they were FREE!). Met up with Clo and another DJ who was just in awe that my son rattled off his favorite groups from Slipknot to Godsmack to RUSH to Metallica without any prompting.

Before we knew it, it was after 1 a.m. My son was just so pumped at all we were able to do extra besides just the show. Definitely a night he will remember. As we were walking outside to go to our car, I heard someone yell "Hey Slipknot!". Looked up and Clo was hanging from the balcony yelling "They'll never catch me up here!".

Truly a night to remember. Some pics below from our seats and from inside the VIP party. My son is grinning ear to ear. Usually he crashes in the car on the way home. Not this time.
