Need Help Settling Arguement!

So me and a friend have come to a stalemate in this argument, and need opinions on it.

 

He said "Luke you've made it very clear: I did it wrong" 

Notice he used a colon there                 ^

 

I say that a semicolon should have been used, instead of a colon. We both believe we are correct, so we need more opinions on it.
