Sony Viacom Cable Deal
Companies such as Netflix and Intel have all been trying to chip away at the cable companies' traditional business model and it now appears that Sony is about to throw its hat in the ring. The New York Times reports that Sony has reached a deal with Viacom to bring its cable television stations to its new yet-to-be-unveiled Internet TV service. The Times says that "the agreement is believed to be the first of its kind between a major programmer and any of the technology giants that are trying to disrupt traditional modes of TV delivery" so we'll have to watch to see if Sony can reel in any other big-name stations. The Times doesn't say how Sony plans on selling its new TV service but it will likely tie into the company's popular PlayStation gaming console that is already hooked up to millions of consumers' televisions.EPa7xFLVAVE
