Catface =^..^= Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 My wife took this photo while I was working on an Itallian ice marble sculpture.... Yeah I know... safety glasses etal... Safety 3rd 0_o.... Quote
Catface =^..^= Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 Here is the finished piece... I attached it to an exotic 100 year old Claro Burl wood pedastal... crappy photo... great thing about this marble is that it is translucent and viened... Quote
Antichrist Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 That's really cool. What tools do you use to carve marble? How hard is marble compared to other stones? Quote
Catface =^..^= Posted March 30, 2013 Author Posted March 30, 2013 I usually start of with 4 1/2 inch diamond blades... Then chisels both hand and air, and various die grinders with green stone heads. Then I use dremmels, smaller air grinders. Finishing with 2 or 3 days worth of hand sanding... 180, 300, 600, 1000, 2000, then 3k... All wet in the k range... This marble is only about a 4 in hardness... And less brittle than Carrera... I work from granite, all the way down to soapstone... I have a 200lb piece of pink spainish travertine I want to jump on this summer... And enough of this rock to do maybe 2 mors 14 inch figurines... Definately ordering more... ;-) Quote
