Narug0
Finally my I7 is here, PS: have 1 week but only now, I have installed win7 on new partition, this time was not easy because /home was using all space. My pc come with linux mandriva 10.2 installed. I have gforce 9600 gt to install here, but first i need test it. Doubt how to enable turbo boost 3.4ghz to 3.8ghz
Novice
You have to enable it in the bios, here is a good FAQ about it all http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-029908.htm
LA_Kings_Fan
Yep TURBO Boost will be in your BIOS, and that's based around what MOTHERBOARD you have, for an i7 2600 SandyBridge chip, I got to assume you have a newer z68, x79 or z77 Chipset MoBo that should have a nice UEFI BIOS that should make the whole Turbo Boost OverClocking SUPER SIMPLE ! Narug0
I have same bios of my old pc i5-2310 and im doing same but not working as in I5-2310.
Narug0
disabled smart cpu fan, and nothing... downloaded display turbo boost and seen when running any app this come to 3,5ghz and after some seconds this down saying "energy savings" then edited settings energy changed to high performance, and same speed nothing new. --- IPDT64 - rev 1.24.0.0 --- --- Start Time: 01/07/2013 20:12:27--- --- Skipping Config --- --- Reading CPU Manufacturer --- Expected --> GenuineIntel Detected --> GenuineIntel Found --- Genuine Intel Processor --- --- Temperature Test --- Temperature Test Passed!!! LA_Kings_Fan
OK ... back up ... and let's keep this simple ... What's your MOTHERBOARD ? What MAKER ... Asus, AsRock, MSI, Gigabyte, etc. ... and what Model ? ... you should have an UEFI BIOS that you'll press < DELETE > key or ??? during the computers POST process, but BEFORE it BOOT's into the windows Splash screen, that will allow you to make adjustments to your BIOS settings. Example, in my case I have an ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z 68 motherboard, and my UEFI BIOS looks like this ... Narug0
what i saw... only i7-2600k, can be overclocked, I7-2600 non k cant be overclocked have booster but enabled can do max 3,5ghz
LA_Kings_Fan
Yes the K series are the FULLY UNLOCKED chips in the 2nd generation of Intel Core processors, allowing the end user FULL control over the processor cores/turbo ratios and DDR3 settings, and ADDITIONAL unlocked OverClocking. But your i7-2600 still has the TURBO BOOST, allowing you a small boost from stocks 3.4GHz up to a 3.8GHz maximum. While the i7-2600K , allows for OverClocking BEYOND the simple Turbo-Boost of 3.8GHz, depending on the quality of MoBo, CPU Cooling, quality of CPU chip itself, etc you COULD overclock in the 5.0GHz range or beyond. I myself have the i7-2600K and had mine OC'd as high as 4.8 GHZ but backed it down to 4.6 GHz for daily use ... but I've seen some as high as 5.863 GHz on AIR Cooling. Narug0
here have solution but idk how to. http://www.tomshardw...bo-2600-forever how it is possible? and mine = Edited January 8, 2013 by Narug0
LA_Kings_Fan
Frankly ... I wouldn't worry about it too much Narug0. For one, obviously OverClocking WASN'T your biggest concern to begin with because you bought the i7 2600 instead of the i7 2600K, so you knew going into it that you were limited to how high you COULD go anyways. Secondly, while getting a nice overclock is great for the e-peen braggin rights and all, in the end you usually can't run super high OC's stable 24/7 365 ... and they end up destroying your cpu faster if you try, due to excessive heat build up. As I mentioned in my case ... I COULD get 4.8 GHz just fine, and if I tweaked and played with things I'm sure I could have passed the 5 GHz level. But would I want to run that full time ? and have the CPU fail about a year before it would if I backed things down and ran it at a cooler and more stable OC ? NO ... I spent too much on this rig, I'm not rich, and I want it to last me for the next 2-4 years before I gotta upgrade again. So I backed mine down to 4.6 GHz . So Lastly that your running @ 3.5 GHz is still better than needed for any of todays high end games, you won't see much if any performance increase (maybe very slightly higher FPS) from running it at 3.8 GHz. I mean you can keep trying to play with it ... but I'd stick to the 3.5 GHz and be happy knowing your CPU will run that 24/7/365 for the next 4+ years. IF Gamming performance is what's important to you, upgrading that gForce 9600 gt graphics card will do you a LOT more than trying to get that extra couple hundred MHz from your CPU.
