Joku_. Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 Brazil releases Google executive in video row The Mohammed YouTube video has produced violence. Previously we saw the same kind of outrage when the danish Midjylland published the Mohammed caricatures. In the past Google has been very strict in its policy to block some videos/ sites by nation states requests. For instance, this particular conversation has been going on in China for a decade. The claimers said the film was offensive and a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of religion. Miranda (the judge who gave the ruling) said the case juxtaposed freedom of expression and the need to protect individuals or groups of people from action that might incite religious discrimination. Ruling that the video should be taken down (and yes I know it is also partly a problem of Brazilian constitution system that is outdated). What I fail to understand is how that particular video would incite religious discrimination? By encouraging to create more the same of material or to provoke anti Islamic behavior in general? I guess the golden question is where do we draw the line concerning the freedom of speech. The bigger picture also being is what is Google's responsibility for content uploaded by third parties to its websites? Quote
parrot Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 difficult question to answer. Think on this just for perspective: Islam is 14 centuries old. When Christianity was the same age we had the Inquisition and all that mess. Not excusing the actions by any stretch, but perhaps just some insight into where that culture is atm. Quote
