iPhone 5 Sales Projection

If each new generation of Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone sells roughly the same number of devices as all the previous generations combined, then what does that say about how well the soon-to-be-announced “iPhone 5″ will sell? Asymco analyst Horace Dediu crunched some numbers and projects that while sales of Apple’s next phone might not add up to all previous-generations iPhone sales, it will still be able to sell an impressive 170 million units over its first four quarters on the market. What’s more, Dediu says that iPhone 5 sales could top 200 million units sold if the company keeps the device in production for as long as it did the iPhone 3GS. Dediu also notes that if Apple can maintain the growth rate it has seen up to this point, the company will “easily” sell at least 250 million units of its next-generation iPhone.
