hazazil
i guess he will get to 95C. who else wants to guess? ss's of temps please after 3 or so passes if it lasts that long lol forgive my ignorance but.......i have a AMD Phenom II 945 X4 3.0ghz Processor and thought the cpu was running hot because a cpu temp monitoring program was showing the temps in red but i later learned that the max temp for the cpu is 160F max. So if that's a quad core processor i would say it runs prolly about the same as mine did. I was running 105F-115F and then replaced the stock heatsink with a Asus Triton 78. My temps dropped alot and now it runs 90F most of the time. 95F is the highest it goes http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835101024&cm_re=triton_78-_-35-101-024-_-Product
*Evil*Stevedawg
forgive my ignorance but.......i have a AMD Phenom II 945 X4 3.0ghz Processor and thought the cpu was running hot because a cpu temp monitoring program was showing the temps in red but i later learned that the max temp for the cpu is 160F max. So if that's a quad core processor i would say it runs prolly about the same as mine did. I would actually expect his Intel chip to run cooler than 95C even at full load with the stock heat sink mainly bc he wont be overclocking it. Your CPU max temp is 62-70C (around 150F) depending on the chip type as you stated. Intel's i7 under full load normally run 90-80C with stock heat sinks, and idle at 50-40C. Also AMD tends to ship more legit stock heatsinks than Intel, so your stock cooler would probably work a little more efficiently anyways. AMD Phenom II stock Intel i7 stock Intel is changing there stock cooler with the i9 though to a very substantial looking beast. they are giving it alot more area for cooling but i have a feeling the tight spacing of the fins may inhibit airflow. guess time will tell Edited November 13, 2009 by *Evil*Stevedawg
American
My last / current AMD processor heat sink looks like crap, Im considering buying a new one.
hazazil
wow, that does look like a beast of a stock heatsink. yah, mine was fine with stock heatsink. I got the Asus triton 78 for 15.00 after rebate and cheapest i seen it other than that was 50.00+ so i figured i mine as well. It is HUGE and there's less than 2.5 inches from it not fitting
kdoto
isnt this a little overkill for W:ET? any computer can run ET... if it cant... something is seriously wrong with your computer XD
TulsaGeoff
any computer can run ET... if it cant... something is seriously wrong with your computer XD My friends laptop with a quadcore processor and 4gb memory could not run ET at a decent FPS. I averaged 20-45 fps which is pretty bad. The reason was the laptop did not have a dedicated graphics card. And the fact that it was an AMD probably didn't help (that is a joke)
