ajnl
Not sure who here has an iphone, ipod, or ipad. But if your interested in jailbreaking them.. check out: http://www.iphonehacks.com/ They have all the latest jailbreaks and great tutorials on how to do it. If you have any questions about jailbreaking you can ask me. I've jailbroken countless iphones (3g, 3gs, and 4) and ipods. Waiting for an ipad 2 jailbreak. Should be coming out soon. Panini*Hobbit@mp3
I'm curious to know what's the difference between jailbroken and normal ipods. I have a 4th gen ipod touch and have wondered if I should bother jailbreaking it or not..
jaie
you lose the security of having all apps checked by 1 of apple's coders you gain the ability of changing more settings and adding apps that have failed these checks to your device - you can tell your ipod what files it can and cannot trust, instead of apple's defaults For instance, some guy made an app which allowed him to silently take control of the device, and retrieve any data he wanted. It got removed from app store when it was found, but i'm pretty sure there will be a dozen floating around cydia. If you're not extremely stupid with what you put on it, i'd reccomend jailbreaking it for fun, but it's nothing special - in a couple weeks you would be thinking what was all the fuss about. You'll basically be able to download 100 free games (and not play 80 of them) and then change more settings - but at the cost of battery life, and breaking your warranty. The chances of you waking up 1 day and your ipod not working are probably the same chances as you not being able to restore your warranty after jailbreaking, so it's probably 99.9% unlikely, but there's still a risk.

To support the good developers and for security. You're able to change settings that you normally can't. Like themes and your notification area can be customized. You can add more functionality to the power/home buttons. You're also able to get apps that you can't get on the app store. Those are some of the best ones, imo.
