Windows Phone makes up 30% of HTC’s sales, will give Android a ‘run for its money’

During the Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) launch in Singapore, HTC’s manager in the country, Melvin Chua, expressed his company’s enthusiasm for Microsoft’s mobile operating system. “We believe that Windows Phone 7 will eventually be better than other platforms and will give Android a run for its money,” Chua said, according to ZDNet Asia. Chua’s speculation around the success of Windows Phone has also been backed by analyst firms Gartner and Pyramid Research. Recent data from Gartner suggests Windows Phone will surpass iOS as the second most popular mobile operating system with a 19.5% share of the global smartphone market by 2015. Android is expected to have a 49% share at that time. In addition, Pyramid Research has suggested the Windows Phone market share will surpass Android in 2013. Chua noted Windows Phone already makes up 30% of HTC’s overall sales and he expects that figure to increase.
