Some common sources of Lag that I have found:

 

1. If you use a shared/unsecure wireless internet connection and someone else is downloading. Your ping will often look normal, but your lag tells you otherwise.

 

2. Your computer is downloading updates without you knowing. Windows, Adobe, sometimes malware can do this also.

 

3. Hardware lag can cause a similar problem. If a virus scanner is running, if you have too many programs running, like messengers, music players, open browsers, these can also create lag.

 

Before blaming your cfg, make sure none of these items are your problem.
