"That piece belongs to a Sidewinder missile. The part he’s holding onto is the guidance section. The warhead portion is the section that would be further behind it (with the Active Optical Target Detector in between the two) which is not attached to the piece he has in his hands. There’s a good chance that the missile broke apart on impact and the warhead “cooked off” (blew up) in the fire as the wreckage burned. For those that don’t believe me, I provided pictures.
