My laptop heatsink fan crapped out and now my laptop crashes playing et after 20 mins or so. I was able to buy a new fan and some thermal paste. It comes in next week. I am going to install the new fan and apply  some new thermal paste for the heat sink. Hopefully it will work out and I can get back to playing for hours and hours. I have to disassemble basically the whole laptop to get to it all. Wish me luck.

any ideas for what else to do while i have it open? like brush everything with rubbing alcohol? im sure there is a thin layer of my grease over everything.

Rubbing alcohol will work great on wiping the old paste away, the higher the grade the better because it will evaporate quicker, and I suggest grabbing a small sandwich bag, or a magnet, something to keep your screws all in one spot

Just don't put that magnet close to your other parts when doing so! 😛

But yes as mentioned higher the % of alcohol the better. I know some places it is difficult to get the 99% stuff but that is best. Or you can use mineral spirits as well that is typically what I use since I get it for free from my work 😄

Another good thing to do in general is just clean everything else off, make sure all other openings/fans are nice n clean too. I know I am probably late and you already finished this up heh but yeah! 😄
