Okey lets start new topic for next season. It feel strange that there isnt even week, when we saw Florida winning Cup. I get use to NHL where Stanley Cup was decided in first week of June. Covid changed schedule and i think now when NHL made contract with ESPN, they will show Stanley Cup finals bit later.

I will start this season with predictions where Top UFA players could signing when free agent markets open tomorrow (Monday). Feel welcome to make your own predictions and add players who i forgot to add.

On caphit range, ”low” i put what would be great sign for team and ”up” i put what player could be asking. If there is rebuild team, its raise max caphit bit more.

TOP 10 UFA Centers

I think we might see some over payments as every year. I will try to make list of biggest overpayments and biggest robberys after free agent markets. Even that i put tittle ”TOP 10, or TOP 15” those are not order of who i valued best. I got tired and time to do this was ending, so use those more as guideline. There is for sure some players who i miss used or over valued.

Will update FA markets news. My winners and losers bit later, i still wait to see if there come some trades and some FA players are still free. CapFriendly is still alive. Still checking it many times per day. First day say it will be shut down 5.Jul.24 Its still up and they probably just teasing us and shut it down soon. Shame, because its easier to use than Puckpedia. I like you can discuss was sign good and who was winner of trade etc.. in there. I will be missing that, because its funny to re-visit those old topics after couple year passed from trade. Best example is how Tkachuk trade Calgary was clear winner. Votes did go 233 Calgary 49 Florida and 35 Fair. Now those comments looks funny what made in there. If you look now, Florida is clear winner. So there is reason why we are just fans and Zito is GM 😄

  10. Jack Campbell (EDM) DAL, CHI, DET 1 season; around 1 – 2M

    - Detroit 1 season and 0,775M

T. Teräväinen CHI – I didnt see this coming. Teräväinen did return to Chicago where he did win Stanley Cup. I did wait Carolina would sign him on 5M range. Teräväinen can play all forward group, PK and PP. I do think his points totall will get higher in Chicago.

Henrique EDM – I was thinking that Henrique want to come back east, but this contracts is good. He now lost two Stanley Cup finals game 7 and with Edmonton he will have good chances for long playoff run this coming season too. He did take away from salary to stay in Edmonton.

S. Monahan CBJ – I should have seen this coming. Waddell want to re-unite Gaudreau and Monahan. I think price is bit high, giving 5,5M and term is bit too long (5 season) How this will contract look like, when Columbus window to Cup is open?

Part 2/3 of offseason moves news.

Worst Contracts

E. Lindholm BOS – Boston wanted Lindholm long long time and now they finally got him, but price looks bit high. Worst way to build your team is through free agency because you have to pay bit extra to players. Last season was bit difficult for Lindholm. Boston felt need to add center and i do think Lindholm will play fine, but is more as second line center than first line center (in Stanley cup contender).

B. Montour SEA – Seattle wish they could get Montour from 22-23 season when he first and only time did past 40 points mark. Last season was difficult when he had injury and he made big mistakes in Stanley Cup finals and lost his place in first PP unit. Montour was FLA number one offensive defender, but in Seattle Vince Dunn have that role. I do see its difficult for Montour to make over 0,5 points per game and this contract might be bought out in future.

C. Stephenson SEA – Stephenson did had one of best contracts past four years, he is Cup winner, just like Montour. Stephenson had good stats in Vegas, also was strong in Stanley Cup run. I do think he is 6M guy now, but contract might look bad in 3-5 years and might be bought out. Atm he earn every penny, but terms and lenght is just too bad. He also had strong forward group around him in Vegas. Can he continue strong play or do he dropp to same lvl as he was in Washington? That risk is in there.

Notes. J. Edmundson Contracts is overpayment too, but close to same as his old contract and its shorter than listed above.

Best contracts

V. Arvidsson EDM – No overpayment on player who know how to score. Injury history probably declined his market value, what was great for Edmonton who operate in limit of Salary Cap. Sometimes Edmonton was too dependent on McDavid line and Draisaitl had difficulties to product in Finals. Edmonton had good bottom six, and they got good value and production from them, but Edmonton did right when letting Foegele walk and sign Arividsson on almost same money. High scoring potential. Great contract.

J.Marchessault NSH – Nashville was active in free agent market and i think Marchessault sign was they best contract. If you can sign Conn Smyth winner less than 6 milj its should be rated as steal. Marchessault might be one of most underrated players in NHL. There is big amount of players who earn +10M and never won Conn Smyth. You cant put price tag  on experience and winning culture what Marchessault bring.

A. Stolarz TOR – I could put Henrique (EDM) or Walker (CAR) to this too, but i do think Stolarz has been hiden talent in goal for long time and now he get best chance of his career in Toronto. Woll have high potential, but i do see Stolarz can be next Roloson/Bryzgalov who got they chance bit older age and played solid careers in NHL. Stolarz also have long run in playoffs, even that he was back up goal, he got chance to see what it need to win Cup and was able to learn from Bobrovsky. I see signing of Stolarz was best move of offseason from Toronto.

Note only UFA singnings to new team is counted.

Potential to be steal

J. DeBrusk VAN – This contract might be next Zach Hyman contract. I like Tocchet style to coach, i dont know how he treat players, but he usually get more out of players than many coaches are able to get. DeBrusk might fit well on Tocchet gaming style. I do think that signing DeBrusk instead Guentzel was good move. VAN save 3,5M salary and if they use it wisely Vancouver might get big advance on that saving.

S. Gostisbehere CAR – This contract have potential to be steal for Carolina. They could get same production from Gostisbehere what Skjei get in NSH and Carolina will save 3,8M. In Carolina Gostisbehere could play in first PP unit and get a lot points. I think his role could be same as Montour had in FLA and in that kind role Gostisbeher have potential to be solid 50-60 point player. I was wise move to let Skjei walk with price what he was asking.

A. Duclair NYI – I was bit surprised to see him sign in NYI. Afterwards when you think, its good sign with good value for team. In NYI he can get chance to play top 6 mins. Duclair has been bouncing through different teams and found steady production. He has been over 0,5point per game player last 5 seasons. He is usually plus player and "only" had -12 in poor San Jose team. Good Congract what might be biggest steal of offseason!

Last part of my offseasons news

3 Biggest winners

Edmonton – In my mind Edmonton is biggest winner offseason. Did they fix they biggest problems? Aka Defence, no, but team is still stronger than what they was in Stanley Cup finals. For me offense was already they strong point and now they have one of widest offense groups in paper. Adding Arvidsson and J.Skinner to team in favorable contracts was good moves. Also team was able to re-sign Janmark, Perry and Brown to very team friendly contracts. Broberg still need new contract. D-group and goalies are same as it was in Stanley Cup finals. I dont think Edmonton is ready yet, there is still a lot work to do before season start, and team could look a lot different, but so far, i put them as biggest winners of offseason.

Chicago – Chicago did add couple good veteran player to they roster without over paying to them too much. Chicago try to bring a lot veterans around they young players, and it can pay them back in future.

Nashville – Nashville did made big signins in free agent market, and didnt over pay heavily. Stamkos and Marchessault bring winning culture to team and make them strong rightway. Skjei will help Josi on production and they dont need to over play Josi in next season. These signs did open Nashville Cup window. Trotz was agressive to open window for team who has been middle pack team last 7 season. After Stanley Cup finals, Nashville have been able to win just one serie (against Colorado) in past 7 season. Nashville will be one of oldest teams next season (today fourth oldest source Eliteprospect)

Had strong off-season too

Vancouver

New Jersey

San Jose

Losers

Minnesota – Minnesota trust that they young players will continue progressing. Guerin style has been to signing they own UFA's one year prior contract ending. Tampa use bit same tactict, but usually signing younger players, when Wild sign they vetars as fast as its possible. That tactic tied Guerin hands now second summer row. Trenin and Lauko was only UFA signings this summer. All other teams in Central did made they roster stronger, so i wouldnt be surprised if Wild be last places in the division.

Islanders – Team only roster UFA signing was Duclair in this offseason and if there is not coming any new moves, it might be difficult to Islanders to take playoff spot on division what was weakest last year. Islanders trust that coach Roy can lead them to playoffs in his first full season behind bench.

Colorado – Second big loser in the Central division. Colora wasnt able to sign any player who we could say is clear opening night player. They did added de Haan and Bränström to d-group, but they did lose Walker from there. Getting Landeskog back would be great news for team, but we dont know how high level his game is. Do we see Nichushkin back? Those two are big question marks and its not easy to fix possible problems in middle of the season. Is this year when Colorado dropp to Wild card or even out of the playoffs? I wouldnt surprise if this seasons is gap year and they dropp out of playoffs just like Vegas did (in 21-22 season) and then come stronger for 2025-2026 season.

Raising questions?

Detroit – What is Yzerplan? Yzerplan been mystery to all of us, but it havent worked yet. Last year Holl signing was raising eyebrowns and now having four goalies and that not include they first round draft pick goalie Cossa. Detroit been patiance with they talents, when it start to pay?

Los Angeles – Dose coach keep saving Blake job? Kings management keep making these strange contracts. Kovalchuk, C. Petersen, PLD and now to Edmundson. Team lost a lot talent to make room to those contracts. I do think Kuemper can bouch back behind stronger defensive team. Blake has gone through four coaches.

Carolina –Carolina lost big pieces from D-group, but that was excepted after they signed Orlov to 7M contract last year. Contract was overpayment, sot this year they tryed to do some repair works in d-group and added Walker and Ghostisbehere. Those might be good signings.

Could still make offseason moves

Rangers – Its been in rumors that Rangers will try to trade J. Trouba. Do they add Kakko in offer too? Could they try to make block buster trade and get Draisaitl from Edmonton? Difficulties on trading Trouba now is that many teams which Trouba would be willing to go, has full cap hit and its hard to make room for Trouba. Contract also is bit too high, so Rangers might have to retain some salary.
