  1. lol @ interwebs .. a personal fav of mine .. anyway this happened to my mom about a month ago ..... first of all my mom is 54 had (matter of fact just got it back after not having a job for a while) insurance and has had asthma and allergies all her life. She was having trouble breathing and went in to see the doctor and they gave her a breathing treatment some allergy prescripts and one for an inhaler. She gets the bill and the insurance company refused to pay for it saying it was a pre-existing condition, I'm like no crap what do u think allergies and asthma are, right. Well after the denied paying her bill she wanted to change her provider and no-doubt the HR dept told her she had to wait tell next year to do it. So now shes stuck paying for a health plan that wont do anything to help but hold out their grubby hands. that's a good story about the spiders to, this all reminds me why I learned to fix cars, I can even rebuild engines, maybe i'll have to add surgery to that list to drugs, alcohol = self medication.

  3. cant say I had much of an opinion then as I didn't graduate HS until 1995, but I now feel that unfair trade practices and an Imbalance of regulation between different countries are some major issues in today's economic climate, for example most businesses in the US have recycling programs and a wide multitude of other environmental concerns not to mention the usual benefit packages, none of which exists in other foreign countries. That basically equals cheap if not slave labor, and everyone loves that as long as it's not in the US, pollute Nigeria for Oil it's OK and poison children who burn old circuit boards for an ounce of tin etc. the list of recent atrocities could go on much longer and most people miss the big picture here, to say screw the poor hobo's and F'k socialism is by far ridiculous in the face of current social problems not just in the US but In the world as a whole. To me it equals cheap labor, high profits, greed, that's the measure of success these days and grind the poor or less advantaged under your polished boots. Maybe its time for a bit of socialism, also empirical evidence supports the fact that the best way to stimulate the economy is to give the poor money. I've taken some economic classes and am currently in one, my professor is a PhD from Notre Dame, which doesn't make me an expert by any stretch but I have gotten A's from her and learned quite a lot of interesting stuff . I dont mean to draw the topic to much off the actual subject, like i said the actual bill may or may not be a good thing but at this point when people face losing homes, and no matter what some people think these are good hard working American families, people who's son's have fought and died for this country an people who's pride almost kills them to ask for help, anything at this point is a start! It's easy to say that when you have all your need's and some of your wants met. All I know is it's a damn shame to see this country that i cherish and that my grandfathers fought for sink to that level of greed, where a persons worth is measured solely by their income. Have you truly been hungry, I have when i went through chemo for Hodgkin's I'd go a week without eating a thing, not because i had to, but because food made me sick, I can't imagine starvation in this day and age, go to a supermarket and look how much food is there and then say that it is right to keep that from children( just think of the stuff we toss every day like so much rubbish) personally I'd rather die. And I mean that with complete conviction, I've faced that at 23, sat there in the rain in September 2 weeks before my 23rd birthday with my mom holding my hand and felt bad for myself, now I laugh at how much of a fool I was. I learned the true meaning of empathy then, and my heart has bleed ever since so stay ignorant to the world around you. Life is an exercise in futility any way when taken from my perspective. All this industry, manufacturing base, whats the point of all of it, Greed~ Ive been a union member, one of the more corrupt groups IMO, they watch as 700+ people are laid off and then raid the union dues paid in by those people with no thought to their families, I happens, I've seen people from United way vaporize at a plant meeting when they announce the plant closing! that was wonderful while the pres of UW flies to Paris for dinner, give me a break, where's my piece of the pie, tell that to my kids who freeze through the winter in Michigan because no one will help even though we qualify based not only on income but on the fact that I'm in a government sponsored retraining program, ever hear of SER, people In this country need to wake up and look past there own manicured front lawns, hopefully while this is still a free country. People allow a snake like bush to draw us into a war with no winners and then cry because they have to foot the bill for his(and the general, * I'm by no means republican basing or siding with the Dem's) economic climate that the bureaucrats or as id say Aristocrats in Washington have put us in and then they piss and wine about helping the average man out, let alone children. Take a look at what that war cost us and say American children are worth less than that once, people support that on the one hand and turn a blind eye to the sufferings next door to them, It's unbelievable . Well to all those successful people out there, pray that you stay that way, when its 8 degrees outside and your children cry don't call me for help. one day you may thank god for unemployment and food stamps no matter what your pride says. I'm 2 classes away from an associates in web development and I like to think of my self as being fairly intelligent, despite my spelling and grammar which I blame on Dyslexia all I know is when the wife asks if its ok to buy the kids an ice cream cone on a hot summer day, their smiles mean the world to me and I'd give every drop of my blood to see that simple joy on a child's face. And I'd gladly pay a bit of tax to ensure that, CEO's walk away with millions while children starve and I think that is just f***ed up.
  4. I'd like to add my own comment here, Specifically to the Successful people comment and Hobo comment. First of all as a resident of Michigan and as a "Former" UAW worker. Strictly saying that the successful people pay for the hobo, rubs me a bit raw. Secondly how do you judge an individuals worth, strictly by there income level. I feel that leaves way to much out, to get a true picture of the present economic situation. All things aside about the bill as I haven't read it a few things are clear from my perspective. I'm no hobo and in fact am enrolled in college, The most I've earned is around 40K a year, is that my worth, Ask my professors when i bring down a 4.0 and have a GPA of 3.8 what my worth to the government should be. Another note is I am a cancer survivor, from when I was 23, and thank god I had a job at the time and Insurance to pay for it. Now with no job and no Insurance, should I get sick, what do I do foot the 500,000 some odd price for a year of treatment and have no Income on top of that, or do i just lay down in a gutter and die. How many hard working Americans have lost there jobs and Insurance In the past 8 years, not to mention the streets full of empty houses that are foreclosed on been there too. The home of the free my ass, more like the home of the indebted. Talk about tax, why the hell do I pay tax on Unemployment money , because I'm a bum. I think not and In fact I'm not even special Just one of Several Hundred Thousand in this state alone. At this point any bill that help's low income is ok by me, walk a mile in those shoes' Work your butt and have your company tell you you no longer have a job, Then go home and tell your wife and kids that and watch as the Successful Vultures circle to feed on your financial carcass, before you so quick to judge socialism, which does not equal communism. Why don't they mention NAFTA these days? Why does the richest person in the world now live In mexico, just food for thought.

  6. in the etmain folder look for a folder named scripts, and a pk3 named common, the script folder contains all the .shader files and the shaderlist.text file that file is what u need to edit to put your shaders into radiant, but if those are missing u will have no textures, common.pk3 contains all the special textures like caulk and triggers etc. for radiant i sort of remember having this problem and installing 1.4 as well as 1.5 for that reason. lol sorry its such a pain but that is how radiant is it's got some issues that take a bit to figure out. also be warned that when importing map's ie. prefabs 1.5 will add numbers to the end of the keys scriptname and/ or targetname and target and break all the scripts, 1.4 doesn't have this problem so i import all prefabs first in 1.4 save the map and then exit and open in 1.5 (or carefully go through them and fix the names the L key works great for this.), well not all but prefabs with scripts for the map script. as to no texture folder in radiant >> all textures will be pulled from the etmain folder, its a good idea to remove all custom maps, because raidant will pull out any textures in the pk3 files and you will wind up using some of those and then when you build a pk3 you wont know that u need to include them and people will see the missing texture orange and black if they dont have those maps, also you put any new textures you want in the etmain / textures/ mapname (or any name) folder you will proly have to make the folders for your textures. The main problem is that most map makers dont stick to a solid naming convention and add textures to the default folders usually by duplicating folder names or adding editing shaders within their pk3's. It really pisses me off .. lol .. i prefix all my texture like the map im making now are all pow_<texture name> in a folder like pow_ground etc. even models are pow_rock_1 etc. if thats not it make sure your preferences are set to et and that the path is correct. you can check preferences in the edit menu, not sure how to change the path but as long as u installed et in the default location it should be ok. i also highly suggest getting either pak scape or winrar so you can open pk3 files and see how there set up. one last thing that will help you greatly is to look through 2-bits et mapping tutorial just google that, its the best ive seen and will explain a lot of things such as entities and will answer many questions faster than waiting for forum replies (that said dont be afraid to post any question, I just mean that as i kno it can be frustrating waiting for someone to reply with help), the actual mapping i can help with most questions good luck .
  7. i use 1.5 but have 1.4 and 1.3 installed, just like the gui in 1.5 better but it has some issues with importing prefab not sure what the problem could be either and i'd suggest trying a different install as well especially if you never got that one to install correctly
  8. some changes for the next one, suggestions from another forum mostly, size of the axis camp spawn building has been increased as well as the door sizes there, the big one the pow's now appear in a random position at the start of the map, there are 15 different spots for them to go. the two small building can now be entered , need some detailing work yet, and need to rework the command map due to the size change, also need to add some cover in places and fix the truck textures. here is the one with random pow's http://www.filefront.com/15781979/pow_alpha.pk3 don't mind the big block of crap floating in the middle lol .. but if u see any problems with the pow's especially the direction they face .. it will print out their a number like med-1 eng -7 etc. that's what i need to check them and fix it but only for the one that's facing wrong like the medic then i just need med-# to see what the problem is. I also added some clipping where it would help the bots and moved some stuff around, the small buildings can be entered now, but need some detailing work yet.
  9. http://www.filefront.com/15761415/pow_alpha.pk3 some of the things i know that need to be done yet, work on lighting, sound, and truck/tank pitch roll while moving, also there is some junk in the sewer drain pipe i missed but you can get by it if u duck (just fixed that) and there is an area that you can get over the prison wall by the main gate where the team axis doors are at and the limbo cam's are messed up at the moment. I also want to add an image for when the pow's are being carried like the doc's but a pow flag instead also no bot support just a quick release to see what you all think only 5.3 megs
  10. allies first spawn/ basically complete flooded tunnel path pump to drain tunnel complete area that floods when the tunnel is drained bunker floor 1 bunker floor 2 bunker floor 3 and spawn location truck exit 360 from above location cp/spawn/ammo/health cave looking back at the forward bunker first shot by tank, disabling one of the tower mg's and messing it up second shot by tank taking out the prison gate great shot, got the tank and truck both by one airstrike, and good fps to boot with both of those models, and all the pow's in the truck I think that's enough for now, most of the map is at a good stage, have only a bit more lighting to do and then some basic bot support and I will have an early beta at the moment i don't plan to add door's to the forward bunker, like big garage doors and some team doors, or to the camp tunnel entrance, also i can latter add another way through the fence in the pow camp if needed but don't plan to right now. feel free to post your thoughts.
  11. that's what the hollow tool is for its a gray box icon with red borders on the tool bar in raident 1.5, you will still want to clean the seems up(this is like a 45 degree joint on the edge or you can but them up against one another but try to avoid overlapping as it will make the bsp compile much slower if you don't but you dont need to worry much about that at this point) but that will take a big square brush and make 6 sides all the width of the current grid, its almost dead center at the top, but don't ever use the csg tools there buggy and can cause a lot of problems i couldn't live with out the hollow tool one click and you have a box so make a big one like 3000 units square and then hit the 5 or 6 key for the grid and then that button and boom you have a hollow box. I use it all the time to make rooms and buildings i just block out the size and hollow it then use the clipper tool to cut door windows and whatnot and then cut the bevels for the seems, but you can worry about all that latter. also other essential keys shift + L mouse click = normal select ctrl + shift + L mouse = select face (usually for texturing) alt + shift + L mouse = deselect current and select what the mouse is over esc = deselect h = hide selected shift + h = unhide all and i = invert selection also in the view menu are filters for various things that help here is a screenshot ive textured the inside with caulk and beveled one corner, with the clipper its the triangle with dots and you put point where u want the cut an push shift+enter to cut the selected brushes - a note is it will texture the cut with whatever texture you have selected, then what i do is reselect the parts im keeping with the shift + L mouse which deselects them and then when you have only the stuff you dont want selected push backspace to delete make sure to take advantage of the tool tips and just get used to the gui and navigation and play around to see what some of the tools can do, you have figured out how to make a brush, if not just L mouse and drag on the grid view which you can change with the xyz button the gui setup was really weird for me and took some time just to get some basic stuff figured out that should be much easier than it is. but thats what we have to work with for editing maps there are a lot of little tricks like this, and IMO its much easier to clip stuff for the most part then to even resize it, of course at some point you have to use the resize tool thats the QE button then select a brush and push E, like i said the gui is really wack also an important thing to understand it that the caulk texture is a non-drawing texture which takes a load off the comp and game engine for hidden stuff you cant see anywhere, you should also read the section on structural vs detail brushes in the 2-bit tutorial for some other things that are important from the beginning.
  12. lol im not a pro at map making, but i do consider myself an aspiring graphic artist, 3d modeler, comp programmer, web designer. almost done with my associate in computer web design, so i can program action script 3 in flash, java, c++ and use a variety of high end software that does lend itself well to this type of work, the gm scripts for omni bot are based of c++ for example i use gtk 1.5 but have 1.4 installed too, both are buggy but the gui in 1.5 is closer to what im used to using in studio max and gmax even though the controls are totally different, it also has a plugin plugins/sunplug/et map coordinator that you need to use (you can do it by hand too) to keep from freezing the limbo menu, if you don't set the map cords the command map will freeze the game because it uses those setting to set up the grid, this is even if you don't have a command map it gives you the default orange and black no shader texture there but that's not a problem, this little problem took me like a week to figure out .. lol the first step to making a map is make a big box and get 1 axis and 1 allies spawn position set up, then you need to make a devmap shortcut to et, thats what i do. Just copy the shortcut and name it devmap and add everything between the || | "C:\Program Files\Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory\ET.exe" +g_gametype 2 +sv_pure 0 +g_warmup 5 | then you can launch the shortcut and type in the counsel (/devmap mapname) that will get the map loaded, also et game cheats work in dev mode like the no clip fly around mode etc. just get something working and you'll be off and running in no time worry about the other crap latter(like the vis portals) ill be the first to admit that my budapest map has some issues but it was done more for learning and i only finished it to work through the whole process so just make something and don't worry if its good or not, that can be addressed latter. even if everyone else thinks its total crap learn from it and make the next one better. I did some of the hardest things i could think of in that map and it took me about 8 months this one im working on has taken only a few weeks so far, maybe 40 or less hours. what im saying is the first map you need to pick up so much stuff that by the time you get to certain things you'll wish you did other things differently but once you get the process down to some degree you can work those things in better, and instead of going well that's to much work to change now i might as well start over because you'll never get finished then ... lol ... you just have to make one and figure its not going to be perfect because its easy to paint yourself into a corner and most people give up at that point. so if you can get radiant working, then go through the 2-bit tutorial and get a working map even if its just empty and i can help( or at least try to) with any scripting or entity problems you run into
