Alfred is the only app I've stuck with. It is a quicklauncher but with a fair few extras which most people probably won't use but saves a bit of time.

Mira, is a really good app. Its not on the apple store its free on their website :http://twistedmelon.com/mira/
it lets you use your apple remote with loads of programs and customise, not just powerpoint and front row
