Grim Reaper Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 (edited) Windows Phone gets its own take on Siri - thanks to Halo If you’re a fan of classic Xbox series Halo, you might have wished for your own personal AI assistant just like Cortana before, but thanks to Microsoft and Windows Phone, you might be getting exactly that. According to a new report, Windows Phone 8.1 is set to get its own Siri-rival which can learn and adapt and it looks like it’s named after Halo’s witty AI too – who needs Apple’s personal assistant now? Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 release, codenamed as “Blueâ€, is set to launch early next year, and it looks like it’ll come along with some AI skills of its own too. Just like the Halo AI that can learn, the Windows Phone version of Cortana looks like it’s able to do the same, and that’s thanks to the knowledge repository powering Microsoft’s Bing search engine. According to ZDNet, Cortana will be more than just an app that lets you interact with your phone via voice commands. Instead, it will be core to the overall operating system of future versions of Windows Phone as well as Windows and Xbox One. There are even screenshots detailing the personal assistant, and it looks like Cortana will be able to pull in weather information, notifications and calendar events into a single interface, which you’ll likely be able to control with your voice. It sounds like it’s going to be even smarter than Apple’s Siri and Samsung’s S-Voice, but will it work out that way in practice? Fingers crossed we’ll find out soon. Do you fancy a AI on your phone just like Halo’s Cortana, or are you happy with how Siri works?
