The bilateral special force exercise is a part of the agenda of the Informal Central European Pooling and Sharing Initiative Defence Ministerial, held in Mali Lošinj.

The “KovÄanje†Barracks in the island of LoÅ¡inj hosted on 31 May 2013 an exercise conducted by members of the Special Operations Battalion of the General Staff of the Croatian Armed Forces and members of the special units the Austrian Armed Forces (the “Jagdkommandoâ€). The “Demonstration Exercise 13†Scenario included synchronised seaborne/airborne/land counter-rebellion campaign by special force performing the ordered procedures, techniques and capabilities. Members of the Croatian Air Force and Air Defence also took part in the Exercise, operating a Mi-171 Sh, as well as members of the Croatian Navy, with the “DMB 81 vessel named “Cetinaâ€.

The Exercise was an item of the agenda of the Informal Central European Pooling and Sharing Initiative Defence Ministerial held on 31 May and 1 June 2013 in Mali LoÅ¡inj. Along with the Croatian host, Minister Ante Kotromanović, the Exercise was attended by Roman JakiÄ, Defence Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Vlastimil Picek, Defence Minister of the Czech Republic, Gerald klug, Defence Minister of the Republic of Austria, Csaba Hende, Defence Minister of Hungary and MiloÅ¡ Koterec, State Secretary of Defence of the Republic of Slovakia. Croatian delegation included Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, Lt. Gen. Drago Lovrić and other senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces.

The ministers discussed the current projects pertaining to the Central European Pooling and Sharing Initiative, as well as co-operation in the region, international operations and the post-2014 period in Afghanistan.

"We have developed very good co-operation and implemented a series of excellent initiatives, such as helicopter team training, which is maintained in co-operation with the Czech Republic, while training of special operations forces is our main domain of co-operation in this Initiative with the Republic of Austria. In the time ahead we intend to open the domains of air space control and explore the possibility of establishing joint squadronsâ€, said Minister Kotromanović following the Exercise.
The Austrian Defence Minister Gerald Klug expressed his satisfaction over the conduct of the Exercise and stated that the Ministerial was considering further forms of defence co-operation among the countries of Central Europe.

The Central European Pooling and Sharing Initiative is a solution taken by the Central European countries in response to the shrinking military budgets and their contribution to development of joint European defence capabilities and crisis response capabilities respectively.
