I am not the smg guy but I do agree with most of the comments here. Like everyone said, they both have their own pros and cons.

Mp5 : Same fire rate and damage stats as AK 74. Tighter spread firing from hip, making it seem more accurate. Due to this, its considered more of a precision gun rather than spray and pray gun. Its used by one of the best players I have ever played with. It goes well with all attachments with red dot and silencer the most effective ones. U can make this into a good stealthy class by using uav jammer, extreme conditioning and suppressed Mp5 and its as effective due to its low recoil and high power. No reload cancel available though, that means you have to wait for the full animation to finish before firing and that can cost you a life. Its iron sight is more user friendly for precision long range shooting, just tap the fire key slowly at long ranges and this can work as a good assault rifle. But due to damage drop, you will need minimum of 4 bullets with stopping power for those long range targets, fired precisely. Also this gun has a higher learning curve in my opinion, so don't give up easily.

AK-74: This is a good match for Mp5. Its a beast of a gun and can be a deadliest weapon if in good hands. Its biggest advantage is reload cancel feature, saving you time and a perk (sleight of hand). This gun is very good for multiple encounters where you are rushing a lot and encountering enemies in quick succession. Like tomato said, it mostly has vertical recoil which makes the gun jump up and down a bit more than the Mp5, making it comparatively less accurate for ADSing ( aiming down the sight). If you see a target at a long range, don't bother precision shooting because recoil will make you adjust ur aim every time you tap shoot unlike Mp5. If you add any attachments you sacrifice the tighter cross hairs unlike mp5 where your cross hair size remain small regardless of the attachment, which is a bit unfair. Since AK 74 has more overall recoil, it sprays nicely with its high rate of fire ( equivalent to Mp5). So if u cannot aim and choose to hip fire blindly, this might give you better results than Mp5 coz ak74's bullet grouping is larger inside your cross hairs, producing better spray in my opinion. This gun could be more fun to use due to its intimidating sound effects, beastly looks and because it belongs to the AK family which is known for producing best assault rifle in the world, i e , AK 47. This game, however, doesn't follow the real world weapon stats due to balance reasons. So these guns are made by keeping a balance with Mp5 and M16 respectively. In COD: Black Ops, I believe AK 47 has the highest damage stats compared to other assault rifles in its class, just like in real life. But inside actual weapon stats wont be available until the game comes out and community tests it in the game.

Hope this helps making a decision regarding choices.

If you're going to use sleight of hand on any smg you'd use it on the skopion <.< If you have the reload cancel on the AKu, use it and you take pretty much a fraction of a second longer than if you did the whole animation with sleight of hand.

I'm an AKu person all the way. Recoil pattern is predictably easy, meaning more shots hit when you ADS with less effort, I spend less time reloading, meaning smaller windows to catch me with my pants down. Basically means it's the aggressors gun. I've always seen the MP5 as a more indirect weapon, as it's definitly better as a silenced MP5 compared to a silenced AKu. But stealth doesn't mean shit in Killbox.

I like the AKu over the mp5 for the simple reason of more damage. The red-dot on the mp5 is better and the iron sights for AKu is what I prefer.

well ,what do you prefer?

i prefer the ak-47. true it has some tradeoffs, but it has a higher caliber and gets a substantial amount of kills. i would average around 70 kills for 35 deaths on most maps. but that is just me.

I think it depends on the attachments and perks you use. If you are looking for accuracy go with the mp5. If you want firepower go with the ak74u, it offers a better hipfire rate. I like both of the guns. The mp5 is more accurate so on larger maps that's my choice. Smaller maps id preffer the ak74u
