  1. Power is an evolutionary dead-end on personal computers, and was somewhat overhyped by Apple and IBM for such uses. It's fantastic on big iron, where power consumption and heat aren't a problem (not if you're willing to spend the money on big iron in the first place, anyway), but it had no future on the PC. Doing quite well in the embedded space, though, where Freescale is selling what is essentially a renamed G4 on a smaller die for mobile devices that don't require the calibre of horsepower that a Core chip brings. What you might see Apple do in the future is drop Intel once their own "A" chips powering the iPhone get stout enough to handle laptops, iMacs, and Mac Mini's.
  2. I just played on a Win 8 machine today, just to test it. It was an older Dell laptop... about 5 years old... with a low-end Athlon II and embedded Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics. ET played beautifully. I've been testing Win 8 since the last public preview version a few months ago, and it runs well all around on older hardware. I was pretty impressed. Hated the interface, at first, but it's growing on me, and I begin to see what Microsoft is trying to do with Metro. Pretty ambitious, really. BTW, didn't have to use compatibility mode. ET installed straight out. I was a little surprised at that, as some of the drivers gave me problems on that machine (the vid chip is customized for Dell, so you can't use a generic AMD driver. You have to use Dell's custom driver for Vista. Worked fine after I installed it, though).
  3. There are several Christmas maps. I love just about all of 'em! As funny as this sounds, since I've been an ET fanatic for many years now, the Christmas maps have become as much a part of the season for me as decorations in my home. No kidding. Really hope the clan decides to use a couple of the maps for the main server. If not the main server, perhaps consider another one (Jay2, maybe?). Add my vote for Northpole plus others, please
  4. I tried playing on the Silent mod server today for the first time, and ET crashes every single time. Has to be a Silent issue... I've no problems with any of the other FA ET servers. I'm running Snow Leopard. When I join a Silent server, I see files downloading, but the game crashes very quickly. I went looking for a Silent client to manually install, and I see a thank-you to a member that built a Mac client for the mod... but the download offered only seems to contain files for Windows and Linux ET clients. Am I missing something here? Is there a separate OS X client to download? And are any other Mac users having problems with the Silent mod? I'd appreciate any help with this, as I played the Silent server on Win 8 machine later, and it went beautifully. Really like to get this running on my Mac. Thanks in advance for any and all help!
