If you can protect your system by yourself then why run updates at all?;) I mean, have they ever solved any problems? no... don´t recall I saw any, though i´ve encountered updates that broke things.

Anyways AMD broke DX9 games with their latest update, they promised to fix it soon. Adrenaline software was it, the previous ones should work fine.

I have GTOmega. I thinks it has more options to adjust and is more comfy than Dxracer. If its out of the reach then I dunno, go to local shop and try sit on couple of ´em. Also try to figure out if the frame is sturydy enough. Those Jysk(\Ikea) ones tend to break easily as they don´t have frame built from pipes.

Have 2 Assassins Creed on my gaming list now, so thanks. Dunno if I ever get so far as to actually play them:P

IMAX all the way.

Well I might give IMAX a new try though last and only experience with IMAX 3D was very bad, considering the price.

#790257 New AMD Adrenalin Driver

Posted by Vanaraud on 16 December 2017 - 01:15 AM

You won't see performance gains by using Chill. If anything, you'd notice a slight performance decrease (unlikely). You'd see a drop in power usage though if you checked with a Kill-A-Watt.

I'm excited about these new drivers though, I like the ability to check performance and usage stats on my phone.

In whitelisted games I didn´t  notice any performance hit with Chill, it´s so "smart" and quick to raise FPS where you need that it´s not noticable. And in FPS games where you need all the power you need it´s not advisable to use at all. But in games with epic views\graphics like "Raise of the Tomb Raider", where you could just sit in one place for minutes to enjoy the views, the Chill reduces FPS well above the level of movie experience(24FPS) or cinematic experience(30FPS) implemented by console ports. And you don´t need more FPS to just watch and enjoy the views but in the meantime Chill keeps the card cooler and reduces noise from cooling system, thus helping even more to enjoy the views the game provides;)

What I meant is that the new DRIVER didn´t provide any performance gains in MEA, at least not any noticable. It might be that in MEA the FPS gains were 10%, but 10% on 40-50FPS is only statistics;)

#790176 New AMD Adrenalin Driver

Posted by Vanaraud on 15 December 2017 - 07:49 AM

My take on it:

There are again, like in the last year, cool and useful features packed with a new driver on the software package called "Radeon Adrenalin Software Edition 17.12.1". I like the most that AMD Chill has now whitelist instead on blacklist. Tested it and it worked with Mass Effect: Andromeda. Also I can call up AMD settings with ALT+R, also system  monitor can be called in game with "ALT+Shift+O" key combination. Only downside is that it doesn´t have official software package for Win 8.1 but it installed for me also with Win7 package. Didn´t notice any perf gains in MEA though.

I have the MG279Q monitor, I always notice when my monitor defaults to 60Hz for some reason. 120Hz+ makes a big difference, never wouldn´t go back anymore;)

Remembered one suprising thing about PSU-s: while Seasonic used to be one of the most expensive compared to similar competitor models, then now the new Focus models cut the prices from even the EVGA. And the supression on ripple noise is amazing, there´s still one downside to it, the caps on cables are on the side of PC parts, not on the PSU side, so it could look ugly.

About the SSD: one has to have a good SSD to feed the NVMe SSD, else it just sits in idle when copying things. Don´t see any point of those speeds, on everyday applications there´s no difference even on Samsung PRO and some low level SSDs...

Haven´t encountered anything so legendary as the HAF case on mainstream yet...

#787578 Finally Back - TulsaGeoff's New Rig

Good time to get some new games, there are good deals all over gaming platforms: Ubisoft has "Black Friday" sale going on with additional discount with Uplay points, Steam runs its annual Autumn Sale.

If you had a copy of Crysis (the first one) you could see if your new PC can manage this relic;) (hint Toms Hardware already tested it).

About the rig too, it looks cool, does it run too?;)

I know exactly how little installation jobs could take half a day, my Corsair H100 had 1 screw hole misplaced with my Corsair r500 case, it was about 0,5mm misplacement between 2 holes but took half a day to get it working finally. Not to mention the installation process of the 12cm AIO of the Fury X. Should take 15 min but in reality takes at least 10x more.

Maybe try to take a short movie clip(even with your mobile phone) from the light work of the LEDs, should be easier to capture than with photo camera.

That last pic reminds me of the DOOM mod that I got for my very young nephew.  The monsters were bunnies and such and the player fired flowers and such at them.  :D

Reminds me of a game from the times where Hexen, Wolf3D and DOOM dominated. Don´t recall the name of the game but I remember that you had to chase down rabbits\white rats.

#784240 Thor 3 - Ragnarok | trailer

Posted by Vanaraud on 29 October 2017 - 01:18 AM

Went to watch the movie in IMAX 3D. First I´d like to point out what a disappointment the 3D of this movie was and the IMAX made even less impression.

The IMAX logo at the beginning of the movie was very promising. And then the movie started ...

After the disappointing start of the movie with it´s lacking 3D effects the whole movie seemed boring.

It would have been a good action movie but the CGI effects looked very simple at times: for example the running of the warriors looked like from 90´s B rate movies. Also Thor´s character seemed dumbed down, I don´t recall from Avenger movies him being so childish. The soundtrack added to the bad feeling about the movie- the whole movie looked like action packed Tron(pun intended). If I were to watch it in 2D cinema on happy hour time for 2-3€, I would say it would have been worth it. But to shell out ~12€ for it is real waste of money.
