  1. The word westernization of cultures in based upon (partly) on the introduction of time is money metaphor, which by penetrating pretty much all cultures by now has shaped the conception how we perceive that time should be used. In other words, it should be something that is productive, and what is productive is based upon cultural values, which comes back to the time is money metaphor. So forth, those that are seen usually most industrious are those that have bigger paychecks, work long days - and those who in their freetime learn new languages, exercise, build up relations etc = even our use of free time has fallen under the same rubric of time is money, which controls everything, if not in reality in some cases then in subconsciously as in I should.
  2. "Men think epilepsy divine, merely because they do not understand it. We will one day understand what causes it, and then cease to call it divine. And so it is with everything in the universe." - Hippocrates

  5. Would also like to add that throwing toilet paper in the toilet is only done in a minority part of the world, western states mostly, many countries don't use toilet paper at all, excluding certain circumstances. Old sewerage cannot take it, it will become choked, not to mention the strain that the usage of toilet paper puts for planets ecosystem.
  6. That is amateur stuff when you compare it to what french do to force their language in everyone's throats.
  7. Inequality in itself is nothing new, but numbers confirming the upcoming disappearance of the middle class and the fact that rich have gotten even richer even during the depression times are always welcomed as they are confirmed numbers that substantiate facts. As for those facts they are not new, wealth in itself creates more wealth when used even some what decently. Even though currency only 'disappears' during the times of huge inflation, the actual ones who suffer the most are the normal working people, not the wealthy, if you compare the numbers. This is due to the real estate and other, lets call them 'concrete' things, as for most normal people they are these days more and more living in a rental flats, and their property mostly consist from consumption materials, which constantly and rapidly lose value anyways. I guess to cut it short I am arguing that something which confirms even further the known truth is never a waste, since that truth was and is still not widely enough recognized nor will it be after this. And Fre'dom I feel Zeitgeist is bit too much inaccurate many ways, all though it is in a way fun to watch. Rather check documentaries, such as these http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1671513/?ref_=nv_sr_1 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1645089/?ref_=nv_sr_1 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317910/?ref_=nv_sr_1 They are bit more decently made fact wise, at least in way, and are able to offer more decent view of matters all though they have their shortcomings. But they can offer a good enough picture in wholeness if one is not interested in reading university research papers.
  8. I will only offer you two lines from the material, the rest you can read yourself if you are interested. The 85 richest people own the same amount of wealth as the poorest 3,5 billion (half of the world's population). In the United States of America, after the financial crises, in other words since 2009, 95 % of the economic growth has ended up to the richest 1 % of the population. And at the same time 90 % of the Americans have become poorer. http://www.oxfam.org/en/policy/working-for-the-few-economic-inequality
  9. Shouldn't be anything new. Even here employers follow their employes work car gps to check how they use their work and free time. The current conversation in Finland is surrounding, at the moment, whether the government could force every car to have a gps, so that they could track the movement of every car all the time. This would be required for the new way they are trying to organize the so called car tax, which would be based on the kilometers you drive, in what areas of Finland etc
  10. As Joe said, terrorism is used by those that feel they have no other way of influencing things that effect them and surround them. They feel suppressed by someone and feel they have no other way of getting their voice out. But adding to that one should also remember that many of the terrorist movements/ groups were/ are financed by some state actors. For instance, al-Qaeda got its financing for a long time from the US government.
  11. Yes, model means the year the design is finalized. And I was just simply referring to the year it was marked for Soviet Army usage, the one used when officially referring to the starting year of the gun as a service gun. The fact that Soviet Army started test using it, as every army does before accepting a gun, is a different matter and that year was already 1947, those years are never used as the starting year, even though 'the gun is used' in a sense They added different kind of metal receivers to the gun in 1948, the following year ak-47 got the final go ahead.
  12. Actually it was taken to use in 1949 by the Soviet Army, all though the model is, as the name says, Avtomat Kalašnikova -47. He said he developed it to defend the borders of Soviet Union, and added that it is the fault of politicians that it is used in some places that is not supposed to be used. The main reasons, in my opinion, behind the 'greatness' of the gun are two simple facts. Simplicity of the gun and how easy it is to produce. But most importantly it is one of the best guns to use in 'hard' conditions, for instance, it jams very rarely. If we compare it to the American competitor version, the m16, its lock mechanism is known for the exact opposite, compared what ak47 gives.
