What came to my attention is the behavior of the previous squads that entered "the shimmer" were totally different and they didnt destroyed the source of the "contamination" area. Yeah good point. What I found a bit weird about the story that the shimmer did nothing more than random mutation of life, and if the source of the shimmer was indeed an alien life form preparing for annihilation, it could be destroyed so easily.
