Looking for a laptop

I'm looking for a good deal on a laptop for my mom for Christmas and could use a little help.  It doesn't have to be anything crazy but it does need to do the few things it's going to used for flawlessly.  Price is probably the biggest issue because I don't have the largest budget atm.  The following is kind of an outline of what it will be used for and features I'm looking for.

+ Size:  16 - 17"

+ It needs to be really sturdy, especially the hinges.  It'll be on the move a lot and a lot of the time she'll have it on her lap.

+ Windows based OS.

+ It'll be used mostly for Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, etc, as well as browsing the internet.  She usually has upwards of 10-15 open tabs in Chrome at any given time.

+ 500Gigs or maybe even 1TB minimum storage.

I think that pretty much covers the necessities.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!  Again, it doesn't have to be a super pc, just don't want to cut any corners or it to fall short at any given task she'll be using it for.  Thanks in advance guys/gals.

@karizmatic what currency is that xD

@moses I need to get her a portable HD anyways so if dropping the storage space will save some money then that is a great idea thanks!

Maybe a Dell XPS? That is if you haven't already decided, they're good for most things and last for quite a long time. If not that, get a used MacBook 2012-2013 and install Windows.

Many will have mixed feelings about this but in my experience Dell laptops last the longest.. I have a 1st gen Dell XPS 15 that still works fantastically to this day, other than likely HDD failure but that is only because it has at times been used as a 24hr workstation serving Windows based Apache SQL PHP server..

XPS may be a little excessive for your mother's needs and your budget perhaps, but their more average home user ones would probably do her well..

(Don't use my XPS now I have finally built my gaming PC but the point remains)

just use google converter.

i have been using acer laptop from past 5-6 years and gaming etc, still it works good, just i have the old GPU so cant run new games. I do prefer acer over mac or others.

Forgot about Dell. I've always had good luck with them but it's been a long time. I'll definitely look into them thanks!

Make and model aside, hat sort of HW would you guys recommend? CPU mode/hz mainly.

Depending on how impatient your mother is, you can't really go wrong with an intel i3 /AMD A6 or upwards.

Also make sure to get at least 8gb of ram, and I highly recommend an SSD as well if your budget allows it.

Definitely wait to get a deal on something. I believe you live in the USA. Check https://slickdeals.net/deals/computers/?src=catnav_computers daily and wait until something becomes available. You can also search for laptop and see what kind of deals are available and wait has expired to get an idea on price.

I'm wanting a latest gen core i5 with a SSD and metal construction for somewhere around $450-500 with accessible or upgradable memory and battery. The latest gen i-series were significantly faster than the previous versions.
