Milkshape or 3d studio max are good programs especially 3d studio max but the pro version is or was very expensive I heard, but it's realy a powerfull too to create immense 3d objects. I'm not an artist, so i couldn't make a punching bag with 3ds max I'm a programmer and this our current project on making own 3d-engine is quite a challenge, and very educational. Teaches how much work those ready engines has done. Like all collision checks, building collisions from the map model 'n all.
