The distance set on the knife is extremely far and rather unnecessary when coupled with the amount of damage it does on silent mod, and especially on hardcore. At least for hardcore I think that the knife range should be lowered.

No..its like changing the medic class to not be able to self heal etc ...so what if the knife throws far..do you hear the other guy crying...but but i got killed by a rambo medic self healing  :drunk

A medic can heal himself on ETPro, such is not the case with the knife and what I mentioned here. You can stab someone from entirely too far away.

I dont think hes talking about throwing knives, hes talking about the distance at which you can damage someone with a knife. I agree its pretty large. A lot of the time, Im like "what the fish, you were no where near me". A couple jabs can instantly kill you, so they are overpowered too. From the back, fine, 1 stab can kill. But even from the front, still die too fast.

And once again I can see why it wouldn't matter on Silent 1 but if HC is supposed to simulate a Hardcore environment, I think that knives are too overpowered.

 

Another supporting argument to this is if you care about rating at all it will screw you up big time as KR is based largely on distance and if someone can get the kill with a few stabs from 5 feet away it will quickly kill your KR. This is also why people who mainly play covie and use knife have higher KR's like Gamestate and Shadow (I'm actually not sure if that was the player, but there was an FA member a while back with around 5KR and a name close to that.)

I kind of don't like how You can't push knife attacker away like on Jaymod.

 

g_shove

Description
    Allows players to push other players with the "use" key. The integer adjusts the amount of force players shove with. 80 seems fair.

I kind of don't like how You can't push knife attacker away like on Jaymod.

I think it is high on both servers, and I would worry about HC more than S1 considering it is supposed to be hardcore and 3 stabs doesn't really seem hardcore to me.

You can push knife killer away, I´ve failed several times on HC my "knife skill" because I was pushed away by skilled player.

 

If Gamestate uses knife to kill me then I´m dead even though hes like 2 meters away. And then there´s me who started backstabbing right next to a guy and ran behind him like 5 seconds, dealing no dmg. So go figure...

 

Also keep your eyes opened, FG42 and especially sten are easy to spot from miles away. And when you have FO in team covie pops up even on radar. That´s why I´m always choosing the class with 0 players, even when you can´t get 1000 kills by spamming arty on enemy spawn in a map, FO can still be extremely useful. Still it´s fun to see when I point out enemy covie and it´s all written over him " disguised enemy" and I shoot at him, people just walk by like in metro city thinking "not my business, I´ll just walk by" :P

 

And yep knife is a valid tactic against medics who run behind corner 3x per fight, even when sten overheats and has effectively 16 bullets in mag vs MP40-s 30 bullets. So knife will give covie the needed "edge" after medic has bleeded covie to ~10HP with his\her 300HP+ effectively.

 

Long story short- knife is fine as it is.

It really isn't though, not on a server that is supposed to be 'hardcore'. If you want to emulate a hardcore environment knives that take two or three stabs to kill doesn't fit. If a covie knows what they're doing, a sten will kill you in a few shots. An FG42 will kill faster if you can manage to get headshots due to its rate of fire. People manage to kill me all the time with the normal weapons in the game that aren't set with higher damage and other perks, covies shouldn't be any different. If you are able to run away and heal as a medic then you A.) won't be getting knifed as it is and B.) the covie is doing something wrong already. Medics are not invincible, you just have to know how to hit them.

In addition to this, covies get reduced damage and don't take any damage from explosives. If not the knife, something here is wrong.

Its good to bump if your suggestion doesn't get much feedback :)

 

For me, id like to see the knife damage reduced by at least 30% or lower the distance at which you can damage someone with a knife.

 

Need a leaders approval though. We can discuss all day long for the rest of our lives but nothing will get done without proper approval. Maybe you can submit a contact us form to staff for them to take a look at this. Most of the time they are busy and overlook suggestions so that's a good day to get their attention. Also suggest what you want exactly to be changed.

can we get something conclusive on this? youre still able to kill people with a knife even if theyre sprinting backwards with no obstacles. Why is the range so high? 

 

alll this does is give a super unfair advantage to coverts, because they have damage reduction due to uniform and then an extended knife so you cant kill them before they get to you and they will kill you if they get close enough.
