Config request :)

Hey guys, I'm still having issues regarding lag, and even more now that I've upgraded several components in my PC. It's been years since I've played around with configs, so I have no idea what I'm doing. So I thought maybe just having a new one made for this set up I have now might help me a lot. I'd appreciate it if someone could take the time and draw me up one real quick! :)

  • CPU: FX 6300 - 3.78 GHz (First time overclocking, so once I figure it out I'm trying to push it 4.3+ Ghz)
  • RAM: 8 GB (Dual channel DDR3-1600)
  • Graphic Card: RX 470 4gb
  • Monitor: 21.5 inch wide - 1920 x 1080 - 59 Hertz
  • Internet connection and speed: modem via Ethernet at 100 Mbps
  • Game graphics: Semi good graphics. I'm used to playing with a black sky for example, but I should be able to handle the graphics. But performance > detail.
  • What resolution you play with: I'm not even for sure what it is or what I used to it play as, so whatever is recommended will do!
  • What Sensitivity: 5
  • What Crosshair: 5
  • What FOV you want: 90

If there is anything else you need to know I will respond ASAP. Thanks a lot!!

By the way I've played on the Jay 1 server for 1 - 2 years off and on under *chosenone. So I'm not new to the server, just new to the forums with my new in-game alias :)

Here try this just shared it a min ago just put it in etmain

It's set for you screen size and refresh rate just changed it you may have to play with the settings to get the crosshair size and style you use.

If you decide to use DoubleDragon's cfg and you are a 90 fov user it may be tough getting used to 16:9 vs. 4:3.

This is because ET wasn't designed for 16:9, so it cuts out a huge chunk of vertical fov. (about -16 degrees for 16:9 and about -10 for 16:10) so it may be a good idea for you to just stick with 4:3.

A lot of people still just use r_mode "6" which is 1024x768, but if you want a bit more clarity you should try out both 1280x960 or even 1440x1080 as a custom resolution.  If you don't mind using a 5:4 resolution, try r_mode "8" which is 1280x1024. Slightly more vertical fov than 4:3 resolutions but it looks a bit strange with blackbars on a 16:9 monitor.

You may not even have an issue with all of this but I personally have to use a completely different fov now that i'm on 16:9. Just a quick tip in case it is an issue for you.

tl:dr If 16:9 DOES feel weird to you while using cg_fov 90, either try bumping your fov up to 106.27 to keep the enemies the same size or switch back to a classic 4:3 resolution using r_mode "4-8".

r_mode -1 is set with 1920x1080 + 110 fov don't look weird to me lol

You misunderstand me. 1920x1080 + 90 fov is what I said would look weird. He stated that he would like to use a config with 90 fov, just figured i'd point that out before he starts using 90 fov on 16:9. I'm saying if he used your config, then switched from 110 to 90 FOV after the fact, that is what would look weird. Using your config without making any changes would be perfectly fine, of course. I could have worded that better in the first place, my apologies.

Ah the one part I missed apparently should have went to bed.

seta r_fullscreen "0"  // 1 for on 0 for off
seta r_customwidth "1366"  <-- native 1920
seta r_customheight "768"   <-- native 1080
seta r_mode "-1" <-- disables the mode to set custom resolution

seta cg_fov "90"  <-- field of view

He's running 6 cores with 8gb Ram some how skipped the field of view. You stating the obvious r_mode's he could easily switch those in game with /set r_mode #;vid_restart
He's stating he has some what graphics with a video card with 12nm the autoexec.cfg it has most of the area effects to disable so he can get over 100fps thats all I was looking at.

here I correct it a bit just paste this will remove most of the fps drops

// User Interface settings most common
seta cg_fov "90"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_fullscreen "1"
seta com_maxfps "72"
seta r_customwidth "1366"
seta r_customheight "768"
seta r_displayRefresh "75"
seta cg_muzzleFlash "0"

//Blood Related
seta cg_bloodDamageBlend "0"
seta cg_gibs "0"
seta cg_showBlood "0"
seta cg_bloodTime "0"
seta cg_bloodFlash "0"

//Shader Related
seta r_picmip "1"
seta r_textureMode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST"
seta r_faceplanecull "1"
seta r_detailtextures "0"
seta r_customaspect "1"
seta r_ext_compressed_textures "1"
seta r_texturebits "16"
seta r_colorbits "16"
seta r_showsky "0"
seta r_ext_compress_textures "1"
seta r_primitives "0"
seta r_inGameVideo "0"
seta r_highQualityVideo "0"
seta r_fastsky "1"
seta r_drawsun "0"
seta r_dynamiclight "0"

Rendering Modes as explained from previous message to make it clear

While in game you can do /modelist and it will give you this list

Mode  0: 320x240
Mode  1: 400x300
Mode  2: 512x384
Mode  3: 640x480
Mode  4: 800x600
Mode  5: 960x720
Mode  6: 1024x768
Mode  7: 1152x864
Mode  8: 1280x1024
Mode  9: 1600x1200
Mode 10: 2048x1536
Mode 11: 856x480 (wide)

Hope that cleared that up.

Run winMTR while you're at it.  This will rule out your connection being your issue.

-->  Link to winMTR.  Give all of that a read and run through the different steps https://fearless-assassins.com/forum-11/announcement-9-how-to-recognize-your-lag/

Graphics card driver settings can cause quite a bit of issues as well.  Since you're all AMD be sure to set r_primitives 2.  If anyone knows all the proper driver settings for his video card maybe they can post them here?  Vsync, tripple buffering, etc.  I'm only familiar with Nvidia drivers.

For those that are trying to help...  He's located very close to the server but has a ping of 160.  From what I got from him in game before sending him to the forums, he didn't run into this problem until updating some hardware.
